Can any veggie lovers who cook at home enlighten me about fresh produce, grains, legumes to be had in BA?

You won't have any problem finding fresh vegetables, there are plenty of "verdulerías" in every neighborhood of the city. Most health food stores "dieteticas" carry grains, legumes, dried fruits, vitamins, spices so you won't be short on finding those items either. You won't find the variety of items that you find in the USA or Western Europe or the UK. As well, price varies a lot from one shop to another, so forget the one stop shopping concept for these types of items. Once you are settled after a week or so you will find the places you like best to shop, who gives you the best quality for your money and who has the items you are looking for. Good luck.

David pretty much sums it up. The only thing I would add is that you can find a lot of things not available in most "dieteticas" and "verdulerías" in Barrio Chino (Chinatown). This includes miso, tofu, etc.

I went to El Galpon recently and there is a stand by La Azucena who use vegetarian rennet for their cheeses.

There are various organic growers who deliver to your home. One that I can think of offhand is http://www.jardinorganico.com.ar/. Also http://www.granomadre.com.ar/. For health food that is already prepared, and various homemade nut butters, etc., Cocina Verde delivers, too. http://cocinaverde.com/

There used to be a guy from Wisconsin who grew organic cherry tomatoes from seeds he brought with him. He had a stand somewhere in Belgrano, but delivered to my door in San Telmo. If I find his details again, I'll post them.

This is a useful listing of resources ...

Of them all I'd single out the Macro-biotic restaurant in Colegiales which has an Almacén and its a quirky nice place in a gem of an area

http://lacasadeohsawa.com.ar/index1.html.

Not an extensive range of products in the shop but helpful whereas after being several times. I Disagree with the Restaurant Review in happycow.net which says " Although the place is not so nice and the service is not the best, they serve good macrobiotic dishes." Service isnt so bad considering the average grumpy 'mosso' you encounter in many cafes and the "casa" has much of the characteristics of a typical original middle class home from the 1929's so 10/10 for conservation!!

I order from Talloverde every 10 days or so.

And Casa China in Chinatown on Arribenos (sorry new keyboard haven't figured out the accent for the n yet) and Juramento (mid block by the dragon arch). Has a huge variety of rices, beans, dried mushrooms/chilis, spices, and soy products I haven't seen elsewhere (milk, tofu, cheese, mayo, dried tofu), and seitan. They have vitamins and many other stuff. I pretty much use that as my main grocery store since I eat vegetarian at home. I been drinking guava juice a lot lately, and I never seen that anywhere else.
