I've never had my camera stolen so I don't know for sure that these ideas work but there are two things I do, just in case...
First, I use low capacity memory cards - lots of them - and change them frequently. If my camera is stolen then I have only lost the last few hours of my work.
Then, I've left a message - in Spanish and English - on the internal memory so that the thief -ahem- I mean 'finder' can make contact to sell it back to me. It's not as sophisticated as this... http://www.andrewmcdonald.net.au/a-pictorial-guide-to-avoiding-camera-loss/ but you get the general idea.
