Casino Royale?

I wonder if anyone has seen the new Bond film, "Casino Royale?" Very impressive, with Daniel Craig cast as the new 007. All the Bonds after Connery -- Moore, Lazenby, Dalton, and Brosnan -- have been disappointing: sissies and metrosexuals. Moore never even looked convincing in the arms of a woman. A very muscular performance from Craig. I feel Fleming would have approved.

It will be showing in a couple of weeks (check villagecinemas.com/proximosestrenos), I had read terrible critics of this film. The same applies to Liv Tyler's version of Marie Antoinette but here the critics were merciless. Among other things it was said that she reinvented french history giving her own version of the French Revolution. Is it already playing up north?

I saw the movie the first day it was released in the US. Lots of women ( ahh...) liked the movie..coz for once the movie was actually about Bond, James and not just the Bond girl(s). Very nice as BBW had stated. Liked it, I took a mixture of crowd with me based on review given according to age range it got a positive review altogether. I believe they are working on a second film for Craig as Bond, and the script was started even before this one wrapped production/ filming. A go-see movie.

Is it already playing up north?

Maybe in one of the arty cinemas. It's more likely to appeal to mass European audiences than mass American audiences. European history isn't a strong point here (remember that "The Madness of King George III" had to be renamed "The Madness of King George" in case American audiences thought this film was a sequel to previous films). I don't know if I'll bother seeing it myself: I'm tired of costume dramas and period pieces. I want to see violence and mayhem. I have learned, though, that Marie Antoinette never said, "Let them eat cake."

I think Craig has signed a 3-film contract. He has some theatre experience, and he has been in other films. As you say, "Casino Royale" focuses on Bond himself rather than the girls or (even worse) the gee-whiz technical gadgetry that substituted for acting and plot in the other post-Connery Bond films (there is technical stuff here as well, but it seems to blend in seamlessly and plausibly into the fabric of the plot). Here we have Bond as a gentleman thug -- not some fop or dandy -- who gets a proper beating (Fleming was into sado-masochism).

Hey , I 've never been to the U.S., but is it as bad as you claim above?
