I too think she is playing on the superstition as in most of her stump speeches, she always says something along the lines of ¨I can feel him here with us right now at this moment¨ ---Usually responded to by a chorus of oohs and ahs.
But also you are right, it is clearly working, the ones who love her not only respect her as a politician, but look to her as if she were the messiah of Argentina. She is clearly seen more like a Mother Teresa than a Hilary Clinton, and some of these people would drink her bath water in order to keep their social plans.
To me it´s not a question of left or right, it´s a matter of practicing what you preach. She talks a big talk about the evils of imported goods, made in Argentina is best, and how its important to keep your assets in Argentina and in Pesos, yet struts around in imported clothing and jewelry, drives a European made car (her daughter also), sends her kid to NYU and has her bunking at the lavish Kirchner Upper East Side Manhattan penthouse, while keeping accounts in USD.
It´s like getting a chain smoker to endorse a cancer charity.
