Pfizer cut doses of coronavirus vaccines it will make in 2020
As reported on Thursday by The Wall Street Journal, pharmaceutical had to cut in half the number of doses of its vaccine that it expected to manufacture and distribute in the remainder of the year after finding raw materials in early production didn't meet its standards...

It is not yet known how this will affect the commitment to deliver 1,500,000 doses to Argentina....

However, Pfizer maintains its projections of producing more than 1 billion doses by 2021, when the vaccine will start to be injected into the general population and will begin the true global campaign to immunize against the virus....

....Russian vaccine: "Alcohol consumption has no effect on the immune response"....Here part of the sayings of his Vice Minister were decontextualized, focused on the population of that country and not on Argentina.
....Two days ago, "an unknown fact" was released about the Russian vaccine. Newspapers and portals around the world replicated in a decontextualized way the sayings of the Russian Deputy Minister, Tatiana Golíkova, about the need to "reduce the intake of drugs and alcohol that could suppress the immune system within the first 42 days", after applying the first dose. In this sense, as Sputnik V, developed by the Gamaleya Center, will be the first variant that will immunize Argentines from the last week of December, the news spread rapidly and became viral in domestic territory.

Faced with this, Conicet researchers came to the crossroads and stated that there is not enough scientific evidence to affirm that the intake of alcohol can inhibit the effectiveness of the drug to generate the necessary defenses against a future infection by covid-19. In this context, one of the most important voices was that of
Jorge Geffner, doctor in Biochemistry and Senior Researcher of the Council, who assures that drinking alcohol would not be counterproductive.

“The main problem is that things are taken out of context. On the Russian scene, alcoholism is a really very serious problem and the Vice Minister's sayings are much better understood. In Argentina, some media gave it to interpret it in a wrong way, as if it were necessary to have total alcoholic abstinence for 42 days ”, he points out. Then he continues with the explanation based on evidence: “Family, recreational intake (for example, a glass of wine at noon and another at night) does not cause absolutely anything in the body's immune response, it does not directly modify it. And, therefore, it is not counterproductive to the vaccine-induced immune response. No one will have to stop consuming anything ”.

Along these lines, he continued to break down the misunderstanding in order not to instill fear, especially when they have no hold. "The Russian official probably referred to alcoholism, which not only modifies the immune response to Covid but also harms many other body systems. The liver is an organ that does participate in our defense systems from the production of a set of key mediators. However, that alcohol affects people with problem drinking is not the same as saying that no one will be able to consume for a month and a half”, says the specialist....

....It is worth noting that, according to phase 3 trials, Sputnik V was 95% effective and that the two-dose schedule will have a commercial value of approximately $ 20. Alberto Fernández is expected to seal the contract this week and authorize the purchase of 25 million doses.

The Russian vaccine, Sputnik V "is not being evaluated by the regulatory bodies" of Europe and the United States.
The neurologist, Conrado Estol, assured that, "it is unusual for the scientific methodology that it is being applied to the general population without the approval of these organisms."....
