Covid Vaccination Argentina

As reported in Consumer Affairs Coronavirus News....24 May 2021
United Airlines offers an incentive to get the shots.
Members of United Airline’s loyalty program now have another incentive to get vaccinated. Fully vaccinated members will have a chance to win free flights for a year's worth of travel.

The promotion is called "Your Shot to Fly.” Any new or existing MileagePlus member who uploads their vaccination records to the airline's mobile app or website between today and June 22 can be entered to win a roundtrip flight for two, in any class of service, to anywhere in the world United flies.

United said it will give away 30 pairs of tickets throughout the month of June. On July 1, United will also announce five randomly selected MileagePlus members who entered the sweepstakes for a grand prize of travel for a year for themselves and a companion – also in any class of service to anywhere in the world United flies.

Exciting news. Towards the end of next week CABA will open registration for the general population in the city to be vaccinated.

In the meantime anyone over 60 who lives in the city and has not yet done so can register to be vaccinated here:

Anyone over 18 with "risk factor" medical condition and who lives in the city can also now register to be vaccinated here: https://empadronamientocovid.buenosaires.gob.ar/vacunacondicionesriesgo18

Also some optimistic reading from Brazil covered by the BBC which demonstrates a drastic reduction in cases, hospitalisations and deaths once 75% of an entire town's population that was fully vaccinated by Sinovac/CoronaVac (which was also approved by the WHO today) This suggests that the pandemic can be controlled once vaccinations reach 75%. Another similar trial is underway in another town in Brazil using the AstraZenaca vaccine produced in Brazil. This trial was the first of its kind in the world.

Sinovac vaccine restores a Brazilian city to near normal

“The most important result was understanding that we can control the pandemic even without vaccinating the entire population,” Palacios said.

The results offer hope to hundreds of millions of people, especially in developing nations. Egypt, Pakistan, Indonesia, Zimbabwe and others are likewise reliant on the Chinese shot, which is cheaper than vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna.

Good news for under 60s in CABA: people between 55-59 years old can register from this Friday, the 50-54 age group from next week, this has now been reported by several outlets:

The registration page should appear here: https://www.buenosaires.gob.ar/coronavirus/vacunacion-covid-19

It's unclear why this screeching U-turn came less than a week after announcing (here: https://www.pagina12.com.ar/343772-cuando-le-tocara-la-vacuna-a-la-poblacion-sin-factores-de-ri) that in August and September those under 60 without medical conditions would be vaccinated, but it's certainly welcome news for those of us living in CABA.

People in CABA between 18 and 60 years old with certain medical conditions can register now at https://www.buenosaires.gob.ar/coronavirus/vacunacion-covid-19/condiciones-de-riesgo. They do say "remember that on the day of the appointment you will have to present a proof or document that certifies the existence of the chronic disease or risk condition". I'm not sure if foreign certificates will be accepted, we know someone who will try without any documentation tomorrow, I can report on how that goes.

Even teachers in CABA are finally getting vaccines, though the procedure has been a mess: it seems all the teachers were thrown off the registration list ("empadronamiento") for not complying with newly invented age restrictions, and are only being vaccinated if they re-register (this requirement wasn't mentioned in the email that was sent to the teachers).

Answer to your quandary is described in the article posted this morning in La Nacion:

So they're saying they have some doses left over from the group of people with medical conditions, and 129,000 doses available in total. It's not enough to make a commitment to vaccinate the 50-59 age group though, that's likely to be around 350,000. There's got to be more to it than that.

Maybe Putin is my saviour, as long as Russia keeps delivering only the first dose of Sputnik, CABA is forced to choose the accepted correct vaccination strategy, i.e. vaccinate as many people as possible with a first dose, and delay the second dose.

The reporting around this is strange, though, according to Gracielle's La Nacion article CABA could still back out: "El viernes, en su conferencia habitual, el ministro Fernán Quirós podría anunciar la apertura del empadronamiento de la población general".

Re: "podria"....The Buenos Aires Ministry of Health has a stock of 129,000 doses, those delivered from the consignment that arrived in Argentina on Monday, which will last for the next four or five days. On Friday, in his regular conference, Minister Fernán Quirós could announce the opening of the registration of the general population".

Answer can be found in the prior paragraph which reads as follows:
Re: "could"....if no additional persons in the last risk group that lives in the city of Buenos Aires, which is made up of 60,000 people, does not sign up. Although in the City they estimate that demand will increase, they also consider that it will not be too much, since the most important flow is concentrated in the first five hours after the opening date of the registration".
