Used my USA Visa today: 37,200 pesos show as US$39.09
Local cueva rate: 990 pesos per dollar

So, it came to 1.51 dollars for the convenience of using the card.
Well worth it, and roughly what it costs to wire money to Uruguay and carry it here.

My bank told me it was 39.09. Also, I made a mistake: the cueva rate was 990 pesos per dollar - just corrected my post.

I believe it makes no sense to pile a load of 1000 peso bills in pocket anymore when you cans imply use yr foreign credit card and maybe end up paying 2-3 usd over and above when spending 40-50 usd on a restaurant bill , example.

Right now visa is 932, WU today was 1057. I still prefer to get more than 10% discount by using WU compared to cards.

That 37,200 peso charge was for a breakfast for three people at an "artisan" pastry shop/cafe in Colegiales. Great food but, still.....!
