From Russia With Love

Hi - no offense at all, please do not worry! i'm very happy to have nothing to do with Moscow, i don't know it very well but i have not known it to be a crime spot, like NYC in 1970-80s for example. Usually crime there has been high only in gang- and mafia related murders/rocket and protection issues, esp in 1990s and early 2000s when people were establishing things. and government made a lot of attempts to 'open ' the country to tourists, they put up milicia everywhere , painted buildings in nice historic colours, lots of art/culture as always been the case. average tourist usually has a good time.

and you are pointing out something important - i noticed it also. There are some real similarities between Argentina (at least BA) and Russia/USSR, politically/economically/and in disregard to individual over society. It's pure socialism except with great level of nonsense and corruption ;) well, at least Argentines have their passports to travel!

But what russians don't have passport? don't get that one lol, so the day of your arrival is comming how are you preparing for that? and what is your reason of comming ? tango, have fun, family, romantic notion of the city, boyfriend, etc etc pick your motive :p

Well, i understand that this is a rather self-selected atypical group of people, but stories i read make me worry to no end. If i ever have anyone with a gun pointing at me, i'll freeze and just not know what to do... I was there last October/November - city was lovely, just lovely, reminded me of Russia where i was born, people were all friendly and spoke spanish to me, which i did not understand, so it's my assumption that they were friendly ... I traveled by bus a lot, people explained where i should get off, of course space is tight - c'est la vie, no? but i also remember having an awkward feeling walking Congresso square at night, group of young people on street, totally uneasy feeling. so i will hope for the best, but i have to say - every single guidebook allocates so many pages to safety, it is particular to BA!

Thanks for the tip, i know this in theory, yet going on Florida st. fills my heart with ambivalence ;) Ha. last time the ATM simply did not work, because bank thought it was 'insecure transaction' and blocked my card ... amazing, what can happen !

I'll be there in 5 weeks, end of February. Looking forward to it!!!

People are friendly! :)
and its not unsafe, im a girl living alone and never had any problem (crosses fingers), and i only walk or take buses at nightime.

Im up for a meeting when you came if you want, im up for anything artsy! :p

Ha. Non-diplomatic non-cultural elite russians could not get their passport (nor money) to travel outside the country until ?1992-5, when socialism fell and they were trying to build a democracy; travel to Turkey/Egypt/Eastern Europe became an upper middle class pursuit in 2000s ;) and still corruption and paternalism and nationalism are de rigeur there :)

Yea, i'm super excited - it's only 4 weeks to my flight!! all above minus romantic notions /BF, + the BA sunsets. As for preparing, i'm asking a bunch of friends in the dancing community for recomendations and ideas about everything. Especially how to not get mugged. ;) What are you up to nowadays, at 34C? ouch.

That would be great, really! I also think there is a difference between a girl looking like a tourist and a girl looking like a local and able to tell people to piss off in their native language.

Ok, i'll share my trick for hot weather ;) jump in a fountain - or a shower - or a friend's shower! The trick is no toweling off water after, it cools you down nicely. Repeat as needed every 15 minutes ;)

I was really hoping for swimming beach spots - river beach, or around Tigre, or ?Carilo - but all suggestions here are to go to Punta del Este? Uruguay? is it true? strange, BA is right on water.

Of corsé you can go to Tigre but I prefer blue waters as in Patagonia :) , you can tell me about your tricks drinking a beer :)

Cold beer in a hot day the best trick to fight the summer lol
