They want a square picture and then crop it to a rectangle, so maybe that's where I went wrong. In any case, it's the standard DNI picture so anywhere you get it done should know. BTW, .. I forgot to mention that we took my early retirement 15 years ago. We don´t give recommendations here.

In Italy for your driving license you have to take the picture from your waistline upward (...) and then they crop your face so that it stays in a 1.5 cm x 1.5 cm white spot on the plastic card.
You might wonder why ask for such a big photo if they just need your head... well, because the software installed in their scanners was set up in a certain way and the people working in the offices are not able to change the settings.
Mystery solved.

To close the circle...

I went to the Registro Civil of San Isidro this morning, just told the receptionist I was there for my certificado de domicilio and she gave me a number to queue. (Last time, she was the one who bounced me back saying I had no right to report my domicile here as a tourist, this time I didn't mention I was I tourist or else.) The actual clerk was very funny and smart and filled in and made me sign the declaracion jurada de domicilio on the spot (no witnesses required). He gave us a slip to pay $20 at Banco Provincia, we paid, went back to the Registro Civili and we had my certificate stamped and signed by the delegado.

That's all.

Another update:

Today I went to collect my Italian criminal record translation by our traductora publica in San Isidro. She didn't offer the legalization service herself, and it turned out that she is registered at the Colegio de traductores publicos de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires (http://www.traductores.org.ar/) which in Av. Corrientes y Callao in Capital (I found her in that website by looking for a translator from Italian to Spanish in San Isidro).

The Colegio de traductores publicos which is 5 block from our place in San Isidro (Rivadavia 578 - San Isidro) is for the Provincia of Buenos Aires (http://www.sanisidro...orespba.org.ar/). Apparently, the two systems aren't communicating.

Also, in the flyer from Migraciones, it mentions that the translation should be legalized in Av. Corrientes, so I am not sure that I could have it done here in San Isidro if I had chosen a different translator.

Cost of the legalization (immediate) ARS 145

I would call the Colegio de Traductores Publicos en Capital and ask if they can legalize that translation since that's where you found the translator. I'm not sure that migraciones would check on the address or where the translator resides as long as their certified with the Colegio de Traductores Publicos.
