Guess what? Milei says the Western world is in danger

Imagine going all that way just for a photo with Dodgy Dave, the laughing stock of Europe:

They've obviously edited out the double chins, possibly on both, but somehow our 1.80m tall toddler-president doesn't quite measure up next to Dodgy Dave (only 5cm taller). He managed to give a strident repetition from his campaign speeches to a half empty room, ignored by the serious world press. Only the not very translatable Spanish phrase "pena ajena" describes it, really.
Infuriating that Cameron is back in the fold. Cant wait for the general election, hopefully it’s sooner rather than later this year

Personally I prefer something in the middle between both extremes but this seems difficult to achieve.
Coming from such a country, if it has the money (like actually has the wealth behind its money or otherwise can live within its means with a sustainable economy) then it is not that hard but nor is it that fast.

Social investment with economic freedom tends to be the natural consequence of a country’s overall prosperity… it also helps a great deal if the country’s population is (a) socially moderate and (b) politically stable, and (c) has a strong sense of civic duty/ self-discipline (e.g. not excessively individualistic or socially unequal so that people generally trust other people in their society).

IMO the world’s social democracies at the top of the economic freedom and prosperity charts generally tend to be the most “boring” countries/ societies to live in for a reason.

As such I’m pretty wary of anyone or any political party that claims to stand for social democracy (or “socialism”) in a context that simply doesn’t permit it. That’s a get rich quick scheme for societies so prevalent in Latin American populism where everyone is promised a “gratis lunch (and like many places, its easy to forget that “gratis” simply doesn’t exist).

Meanwhile Alberto Fernandez is living a tough socialist life in Madrid.

Milei needs to concentrate on Argentina and not preach to the world . A libertarian maintains diplomacy with all his trading partners and does not offend and insult them . China , Russia , Brazil are our main trading partners and all these countries have been vilified by the president . China tomorrow can just stop buying soya and meat and this will have a very negative effect on the economy as they are our biggest trading partner for these commodites .

If we try to imagine he was born in Bangalore.
It is actually amazing, a bit of Indian accent doesn't affect the fact, how far technology came. For me is also scary, because it will inevitably lead to even greater infestation of Internet. Imagine, what kind of stuff can totalitar regime show to their citizens. You could easily make video of Milei praising achievements of socialism..

One of those Social Democracies, Norway, has one of the highest gdp/capita in the world.

Yes, they also tax the hell out of people, and enforcement is brutal. I don't want to pay for your social services.

Scandinavians don’t usually see it as paying for “your” social services, they see it paying for “my” social services. The key difference with governments that focus on “redistribution” of wealth versus Nordic models is that in Nordic countries what people put in to the hat they also get back. It is simply a user pays model, the key issue of course is that you pay for something you will get whether you want it or not.

Democracy cannot exist without checks and balances.... Milei overreaches, certainly in his rhetoric. Push back is inevitable. I dont know enough about his policies but wouldnt be convinced he has the right approach until I see it helping everyone. Will his centralizing political instincts lead to further division? What impact will his proposed laws have on human rights?
