Hate North Americans?

My brother in law started spouting off this anti US, anti capitalism, US is imperialist, kids leave home at 16, no family values, US and rich people are to blame for everything, etc etc. I asked him where he learned this nonsense, he said from school.

So, I can be a hell of a nice guy, be friendly, smile, etc but it ain't gonna do much good if this crap is actually taught in school, or is prevelant in their society. Ignorance is ignorance, and there is no fighting what people are brainwashed to think.

- Stop thinking that people that don t know you have sentiments for you. They couldnt care less where you are from, but they will care how you behave if you meet them, which leads to the second point

- Stop comparing your home and here. For wathever reason you left your birth nest, don t watch back and try to fly like any other birdy around, coz the only thing you ll get doing this is homesickness. Which leads to the third point.

- Try to think positive, and you ll find out the people you cross will start to watch you with a smile...because smiling will come naturally, is a free gift, and doesnt make you look more stupid. Which leads to the 4th point :

Its sad that most people are brainwashed this way and certainly the west is no saint in this matter portraying muslim people as all terrorists or iranians as fanatical animals or homosexuals as depraved pedophiles or that war is a way to be diplomatic. We are all brainwashed by the constant misinformation to create a enemy so that we do not concentrate on our own economic plight or our loss of rights that daily are becoming less and less.

Argentina is no differerent than anywhere else with the majority manipulated to follow a position . People seem to accept the status quo and accept what is presented to them from newspapers and the media and the like. Do we really study the issues or read between the lines . I find that the freedom to think freely is now in moral danger and I am very concerned that the last bastion of free thought the internet is being censored with new draconian laws passed in Australia limiting peoples access to free information.

Actually, I confirmed this by us asking some questions at a party we had for my brother in law at our house. My wife who is Argentine started the conversation and the boys took off with it. We just sat back and listened, we did not engage in the discussion or argue. btw, these are high schoolers.

Now, in all fairness it certainly could be a bad teacher at his school who is spouting this crap. We definitely have those in the US as well. But I'm seeing a pattern here and surprisingly it seems to be just too engrained in many conversations here.

Wow, I am amazed a high school teacher says these kind of things in front of a class :( Pro communist groups and teachers that think alike are very influential at public universities ( UBA ) but usually high school teachers are pretty much neutral about politics.

You been to the US lately?

Uh... the brainwashing is exactly the opposite of what you speak. We are taught that islam is a religion of peace, the Iranian people are victims as are all muslims, we are told we MUST accept homosexuals no matter what one thinks of them. Our society is all about inclusiveness, for better or worse.

I've never in my life been taught that war is a way of being diplomatic. Actually let me correct myself, many wars drag on and on because the US plays politics and tries to be diplomatic instead of just winning the damn war and coming home. So, you may in fact be right on that one.

One of the reasons our society is going down the tubes because we are forced to be so damn politically correct. You are not allowed to have your own opinion if it has anything to do with religion, a minority, sexual preferences, etc

Actually one of the things I DO like in Argentina is you can pretty much say what you feel without fear of the "pc" police.

My sister in law just finished Octavo Curso in a private school out here in Tortuguitas. It's not a fancy bilingual school of English or French style, just a notch better (supposedly) than the pblic schools.

Las Venas Abiertas de Latina America is required reading. The history teacher, according to my sister in law, starts each class off when they talk about the book: "Now remember that the US is big, is evil, and does everything it can to exploit us in Latin America so that they can live rich and leave us in poverty."

Don't for get all the war mongering of our current president. Yes, Bush was horrible, but Obama is more the same, more war, more socialism, more redistribution of wealth to favored constituencies, more destruction of liberty. The US gov has been and continues to be a great evil and gives us Americans a bad name.

Yeah we all live in a world without prejudices. Just stick your head in the sand and pretend it ain't there.

You can't just label things you don't like with socialism, fascism etc. Obama and Bush are working for the elitists, how the f can they be socialist then? Jeez...

Which is true.

I despair at the crap that comes out from intelligent people (sorry, maybe I am prejudging folk here as intelligent) on here.... Its the attitude of certain foreigners living outside their own goldfish bowl that gives a bad rep to all.....

One way or another, I have met a lot of students here on BsAs and they are not simply brainwashed by commie teachers, or fascist teacher, or anything of the sort. Most Argentines you speak to, the ones that are educated beyond tabloid journalism, aspire to better things, be they North American, European, Asian, Australian, etc......

Like any group of peoples, there are good and bad - Some Americans espouse hatred, some espouse love - Some Europeans vote for fascits parties, it doesn't make everyone a fascist. I was a member of the Labour party in Ireland, it doesnt make me a communist!

I doubt there are more than a handful of people who "Hate North Americans" anywhere (OK, maybe the Taliban are narrow-minded) - But here in Argentina, and in most countries of the world, people of nations are not hated, governments on the other hand, may well be... I don't approve of the Italian Governemnt, I like Italians - I am not keen on the government in ireland (and I work for them!), so what!

As has been said on here many times - If you don't like the place, or the people, what the hell are you doing here?
