How do people afford dry cleaning here?

In UK dry-cleaning is expensive and only monied people and banker types can afford it regularly. Ordinary people seldom send clothes to be dry-cleaned and prefer to use this method:

Hang the item of clothing in a cool, well ventilated place for several days or longer until it "self-cleans" and all odours and wrinkles have miraculously disappeared.
Brush off and spot clean the garment if necessary.
Avoid getting overheated when you next wear said clothing as this will cause any latent stale odours to manifest themselves again.

Intersting comments, thanks.

Wrinkles do "fall out" thanks to gravity, but latent stale odors manifesting themselves again simply means the dormant bacteria that causes the odor has become active once again thanks to (body) heat and moisture (sweat).

So, if you don't want to clean the clothes in a manner that kills (most of) the bacteria and you don't want to stink, you either have to sit very, very still or use more perfume.:p

So here is a new question--- I trashed my Armani Collezione tuxedo dancing and drinking all night! So where is the best cleaner in town????

Your best bet for dry cleaning is one of those "5 á sec" locations. They are part of a chain so there are standards and the equipment usually looks clean. The employees who work there are also seem to be "en blanco" so that helps too. If you don't have one of those nearby ask a neighbor for a recommendation for Japanese dry cleaner. Don't go to just anyone, many people here can tell you stories about clothes being ruined and nobody will even listen if you complain.

Just to add my (unsolicited) two cents-- I find that the lavandaria is expensive as well. Yesterday, I paid 50 pesos for one load of laundry and it took 48 hours to be completed.

3 loads in Dublin, quite recently = just over 400 pesos.

Approx. $80??? Wow. Is this a super-specialized service there? I can't imagine why it would be so expensive. In Montreal, three loads would be about $12 (washed, dried, folded).

What's a 'load' the convo is meaningless with out that. A load for me here is about a week worth of clothes - two jeans, 5/6 tshirts, underwear etc, some tops. For a weeks washing I was paying 17 pesos for wash and fold (now have a washing machine). Shirts to be ironed were 5 pesos.

The local place where I get suits dry cleaned was 50 pesos for jacket and trousers.

Comparing to Dublin prob isn't the best example as most people clean at home in Ireland, seems it's more common here to have clothes dropped off at a lavanderia. NYC prob has the highest number of launderettes per sq mt in the world because hardly anybody has their own washing machine. It used to be about 10USD for maybe twice the load I would wash here!

Not super specialised, it's an expensive service in an expensive city I suppose. It's not common to use a laundrette in Dublin. There's a chinese place round the corner from us in Belgrano, i can't remember how much it cost so i can't add much. I rarely dry clean anything and would usually go for a machine wash and ironing of shirts only.

NEVER GO TO 5 A SEC. They are incompetent. Ruined a new jacket. Would not take any responsibility. friends have complained about this company. i use dolphin System which is more expensive but reliable.
