How To Get A Dni / Permanent Residency?

i highly recommend being a permatourist. dealing with the bureaucracy and all the BS is futile and basically a dni does not bear any tangible benefit, especially if you don't need to work in blanco.

But how does one just be a permatourist?

Literally, by never leaving Argentina.

PS: The precise term is "pseudo-tourist" and that includes those who (and still continue to) go to Uruguay, Brazil, and other nearby countries for the purpose of getting a new 90 day visa, but "live" in Argentina more than 180 days of the year (often almost all year).

How long do most people do that?

How long does Argentina allow people to travel across the borders and back without giving them grief?

We have really been traveling around site seeing, but recently decided to stay for a while so I was debating getting my DNI ect.

Im curious just how long some people have done this before getting their paperwork done???

There are many posts about this. Do an advance search with the word permatourist, searching in content, and display the results as posts.

Traveling across the border to get new 90 days visa doesn't keep you "legal" but it has been tolerated for a long time (and still is at most ports entry with the exception of EZE).

Agents at the office of migraciones are still telling foreigners that are unable to get an extension of their visa in Argentina (because they have already overstayed by more than 30 days or already received an extension) that they can go to Uruguay to get a new 90 day visa. This is in spite of the "fact" that those same foreigners could have their passports taken to a supervisor by those same agents who could then return in about ten minutes with a ten day "order" to leave the country.

As others have recently noted, there has only been a "crackdown" on pseudo tourists at EZE and apparently almost all of the "deportations" for "abusing" the tourist visa have been thanks to just one official.

PS: There is no way to know if and when they will ever begin enforcing the so-called tourist visa "limit" of 180 days per year at any if not all ports of entry but you are probably going to be OK for a while...crossing back and forth...perhaps for years.

Thanks for the info, very helpful ill do as you said! Muchas Gracias

My process has been extremely frustrating. Get a lawyer if you can afford one. People here don't know what the hell they're doing half the time and they make you waste your time.
