We're looking to go to Iguazu for a short break in September. 2 adults, two children (4 and 5)

Any hotel/ activity / restaurant recommendations out there?

We'll fly up there too so any tips greatly received.

Thank you in advance

The Sheraton hotel is the only hotel inside Iguazu park. You have to take a bus to get to the falls from the other hotels in Foz de Iguazu.

Sheraton is by far the easiest for the reasons mentioned as it is in the park. If you'd rather be close to town, we stayed in the Panoramic Hotel in Iguazu which we enjoyed, nice rooms, had a bar/casino/etc. Not huge. The Grand Resort Hotel/Casino is supposed to be great. I wasn't really wowed by any place we ate so nothing comes to mind for restaurants. Besides the falls, there is shopping if you want, lots of places to buy jewelry (I got a ring there that I love). You can do the San Ignacio mission/mines as well. That's a full day tour though, it's a few hours drive if I remember from Puerto Iguazu. But all the hotels have tours there so it's easy to arrange.

Sheraton is coming up at $2205 a night which is too expensive for us. Also it has no kids playpark judging by the website.

http://www.hiiguazu.com is a hostel, but it has a separate section of private rooms and amenities that include a large pool with a swim-up bar. Easy to arrange access to the park.

Splurge for the Sheraton. You really experience the falls there,

We stayed at Terra Iguazú (http://www.terraiguazu.com/) and it was cheap, clean and safe.

They are side-by-side independent units with A/C (not all of them had A/C on last December, they were working on it).
Each unit is on two levels - upstairs: large bed room with two double beds and one single bed; downstairs kitchenette, mini-fridge, kettle, table, TV and another single bed.
There is a parilla and a small pool in the complex, but nothing fancy.
They serve you breakfast consisting of some breads, butter, dulce de leche, jam and media lunas (plus teas and mate cocido or coffee). I repeat myself: nothing fancy, but if you are on a budget, I would recommend it.

Within walking distance from the town centre. You will need a remise to get to the Park entrances.

EDIT: we paid ARS 430/night, breakfast included.

The Mrs. and I stayed at Raices Esturion. Nice hotel with good restaurant including breakfast. The waiter was very nice. A fisherman like myself . He showed me all his fishing photos on his phone. Remise to falls was reasonable . We found a guy who took us one day to Argentine side , and the next to Brasil side. He was very prompt. Was a fixed rate per trip.

NOoooooo!!! Not the Mission or the Mine.

They are toooooo far away...almost all day

On a scale of 1 to 10

The mine maybe a 2.5.. it is just a rock store.

The mission maybe a 4... less for kids.... Rent the DVD

Save your money and take the boat ride under the falls or do things in town.
