Joe Biden picks running mate.

My first choice was not Kamala Davis even though I am from the SF Bay Area.
Born in Oakland, California, Harris is a graduate of Howard University and University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office before being recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was elected the 27th district attorney of San Francisco, serving until 2011. Harris was narrowly elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris faced criticism from reformers for tough-on-crime policies she pursued while she was California's attorney general.

In my opinion, Keisha L. Bottoms is a far more competent candidate than Ms. Harris.

BIDEN HAS HIS RUNNING MATE. WILL HARRIS APPEAL TO DEMOCRATIC VOTERS?
By Daniel Bush, @DanielBush
Senior political reporter

As Joe Biden’s newly announced running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris adds star power to the Democratic ticket, and would make history as the first woman to serve as vice president if Biden beats President Donald Trump in November.

But choosing Harris is not without its risks for Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, who leads Trump in the polls heading into the Democratic National Convention next week. Harris — who is the first woman of color to make the ticket for either major party — stumbled as a presidential candidate in the primaries, and the former California attorney general remains unpopular with progressive voters because of her record on policing and criminal justice reform.

Harris faced stiff competition from a diverse field of potential running mates, among them several women of color. Those who reportedly made Biden’s short list included Rep. Karen Bass, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, and Susan Rice, who served as national security adviser to former President Barack Obama. But both had potential liabilities: Rice has never run for elected office, and Bass is not well known nationally.

Despite only entering the national political stage in 2016 when she was first elected to the Senate, Harris is already an established figure among Democratic voters after her White House bid and clashes with Trump’s judicial nominees on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Her performance as a presidential candidate may have been uneven, but Harris showed flashes of brilliance that reminded voters why she’s been a rising Democratic star since her days as an attorney general. She has a compelling backstory as a barrier-breaking law enforcement official who worked her way up through California politics, and can be a powerful orator. At her best, Harris is an electric debater — a skill set on display when she clashed with Biden over school busing policies during the Democratic primary debates last year.

And while Harris didn’t poll well with Black voters as a presidential candidate, her addition to the ticket could increase Black turnout this fall in critical battleground states Biden needs in order to win the election.

Beyond the issue of turnout, in choosing a woman of color as his running mate, Biden sent a strong signal about his commitment to having diverse leadership in the White House — an issue at the forefront for many Democrats at a time of deep racial division in the country. Harris has been an outspoken proponent of police and criminal justice reform in response to the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Her place on the ticket helps Biden signal to voters that those issues will remain front and center through the election.

Kamala, a favorite of the MAGA stocks. Is @TheDonald still predicting a 30% gain of the peso on the dollar if Biden and Harris win?
Yes - why would anything change due to a VP pick?

Let's look at what policies a Biden/Harris administration would pursue: increase corporate tax rates, increase personal income tax rates on the upper middle class and upper class, universal healthcare, student loan forgiveness, increased entitlement spending, guaranteed minimum income, greater regulation on business - especially the banking sector and financial services, legal punishment of big tech...just to name a few. These are not policies that will be welcomed by investors. Assuming no government intervention, investors set foreign exchange rates through the purchase/sale of national assets, including currency. In light of these policies, investors will sell US assets.

If such policies are pursued without offsetting cuts to spending, it is probable that US Treasury debt would be downgraded to AA.

Some of you may prefer these policies. Many think the US will be headed in the right direction under a democratic administration. That's fine. As I wrote in my previous post, I am not making political statements. I am saying that investors - as far back as economic history texts go - have sold assets of populist countries.

In July 2019, Argentina was run by a mostly capitalist administration. If memory serves, the peso/dollar was about 60/1. One year later, after the capitalist administration was replaced by a populist administration, we are at 130/1.

I never said the dollar would weaken overnight. It takes time.

Because Biden is a senile old man who couldn't run a country let alone a 7-11. His VP will have a larger role than which is customary.

Biden stated he would veto a bill on universal healthcare. Greater regulation on banking and financial services? He wrote the bankruptcy bill and is being enthusiastically supported by wall street. Legal punishment of big tech? As a stated before the MAGA stocks love Kamala. They are her biggest financial contributors and she is their protector. This is a dream ticket for banks and tech companies.

The policies of Biden / Harris are neoliberal, not populist. They support free trade and low tariffs, something that The Donald does not. Free trade means higher corporate profits.

It appears from your choice of name that you are a big fan of The Donald, but you're falling for the framing that this would be some populist left wing administration.

Mostly capitalist? Not anywhere close. Plus the exchange rate was artificially propped up by IMF loans which facilitated massive capital flight.

The dollar has already weakened 10% since March. Not against peso of course.

Yes the Biden / Harris ticket is definitely NOT Populist. Trump is Populist. Biden / Harris are classic Neo-Liberals. And Yes Macri was NOT "mostly capitalist" but rather as much of a capitalist as could be elected in Argentina which is virtually none at all, viz. the public sector portion of the economy did NOT decline at all under Macri.

The issue about the debt in the USA is over now. With the pandemic, everyone in the US has given up ever paying off the debt. We are all Argentina now. We're in the endgame now where the Establishment loots the treasury. The Federal Reserve is buying junk bonds and anything it can get its hands on to bail out Wall St. This is the biggest wealth transfer in the history of the world. The "No Billionaires Left Behind" policy. And this will be the same whether Trump or Biden get elected. As bad as the wealth inequality was before, people like Bill Gates and Zuck have doubled their net worth in the last 90 days. Major wealth inequality invariably leads to major social unrest. Buckle your seatbelts boys and girls - the sh*t is about to get real.

What counts is not her "blackness", but her "non-whiteness".

On the subject of "color" seems half-whites are a compromise like Obama and Kamala
French TV announced yesterday the VP nomination, and observed that the daughter of a Jamaican man and woman from India is classified as black in USA.?
