My favourite Music of my youth

I thought that this would be an interesting topic to start here as music has such a incredible effect on people . In my middle class house in Australia rock was very popular with my brother and sister but for me I loved Rythym and Blues and Soul music . In the 1970s music was purer and there were incredible singers that will never be replaced.

One of the singers who very members will know is Minnie Riperton who I secretly loved in my youth She had a voice that always uplifted me and made me feel so alive .

Sadly she died very young in June 1979 at the age of 32 .

You made me go down memory lane today, Pericles. I listened to EVERYTHING!!! Played piano and clarinet too...lol Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elvis, Creedence Clearwater, Crosby, Stills & Nash; Led Zepellin, Greatful Dead, Barry Manilow, Sting, Michael Jackson...and on,,,,and on. I only have to hear one of the old songs and it takes me back to a moment in time: who I was with, what we were doing, etc..

BTW, her name was Minnie Riperton.
 
Marc Bolan, The Sweet, and of course the unforgettable Abba, I still have all their albums, unfortunately I have nothing to play them on.:(
Slade of course, Noddy Holder now more famous as an actor and the voice of the lift in the Birmingham Bull ring Centre.
 
I'm 28 years old... and I remember a lot of the 90's grunge. Nirvana, GreenDay, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains and so on. That was what I listened to in my teen years. Although I also have strong memories of Kylie Minogue and John Farnham!! (very australian)
My boyfriend and I were cranking out a Michael Jackson Number #1s album the other day and I was wondering if our children would know him for his great music as the King of Pop or also for his eccentric ways and the way in which the media has portrayed him. I figure they'll know both, the way I know Elvis. He was dead before I was born, but I still know his music and that he died a fat man on the toilet.
 
Nostalgia, ain't what it used to be. I have the unenvious task of converting my CD collection to MP3 before I move south, and seeing as half the CD's are re-buys from vinyl, its amazing how the formats have changed in my life-time - And no, I'm NOT THAT Old that I have 78's :)....

Minnie Ripperton brings back fond memories, as do the Glam Rock days of the early 70's whilst at school in Liverpool, the Northern Soul sounds from Wigan Casino (where I spent many a Friday night thru to Saturday daylight!), the punk days of the Stranglers, the missing music of the 80's, and U2 through the years.....

Now where is that Mp3 burner......................
 
Bob I also have been tranported back into my youth today with this topic. I have been searching Youtube for a few hours finding those classics,
For me the 1970s had the best music . Incredible ballads sung with soul.
