New Electric Bill Arrived: And The Total Is....

Good for you guys... It must be a gender thing ;) .

I am no a/c fanatic, but I need to turn it on a couple hours before going to bed to cool off the rooms. I don't get fresh air - just hot and humid with an extra serving of mosquitoes.

I like cooling off with a/c and then circulating air with a fan.

I used to try to sleep through the hot nights without air conditioning, with the windows open. But somehow the breeze would stop blowing in the wee hours and the mosquitoes would come out in droves and eat us alive!

Now, to try to save money, we don't turn on the air conditioner but have the ceiling fan on high to provide enough air in a closed room. Which works, except for the noise the fan makes tends to wake us up throughout the night.

I do go back to a comment I've made before though - even with the new rates, I would still pay less here for electricity by a long shot than I did in Houston - I don't think my bill will even be close to 6000-7000 pesos per month. However, I didn't have 30%+ inflation in Houston to deal with either...

Yes, you would pay more in Houston. Yes. Much more. I've got a new house (2011 construction) with all the latest codes and green tech, and electricity can still hit close to $500 when nature lays her hot, wet blanket over SE Texas.

Oh, and did I mention? No subsidies.

Anyone knows how this rate hike works if the building is still using "luz de obra" and the bill comes as part of the expensas?

If that is what your paying, electricity prices still seem cheap even without subsidies. In Belgium, we pay about 0,2 euro per kWh, which would be a bit above the European average.

In 3rd and 4th world countries, Electricity is extremely expensive. Bills of 300 usd a month are common.

Ouch! Electric bill just came and the total is just over $2000 almost makes me miss Cristina.
