Occupy Wallstreet... and Bs As?

I agree with what you wrote, Lucas, but it looks like many of the protesters are actually being supported by die hard anti-establishment icons like Francis Ford Pivin and clearly want to bring down the "democratic republic" system, not correct it's errors...and replace it with direct democracy.

As I indicated in a previous post in this thread, that means mob rule...

but only until the most powerful prevail...

and the killing begins.

It's happened before...and it will happen again...and again..and again.

It's as predictable as asteroid impacts causing mass extinction...

unfortunately, the former happens more frequently than the latter.

It might be worth noting that the "killing" by the "tens of thousands" has never happened in the USA.

But it has in Argentina...within my (adult) lifetime.

Well, I don´t know how somebody can negate that people is actually the ones that do the work. I wonder who create stuff in the minds of some posters here. Machines? Built by people.

If you think for a moment that this system is eternal (or it is even going to survive the century) you have not read too much history. The form of organization of society is not permanent, right now we have a system that has reached the limit of what can do without killing us all in the process, so we need to choose another one (more democratic and efficient, I hope). Dictatorship in the workplace (we work for a pittance, and in return give to a guy the result of our work, over which we don´t have any kind of decision power) is not going to cut it anymore.

It is absurd, and it is at the base of the protests around the world. If you could offer the middle class the deal of the 1950s (meaning: work for me and you will BE middle class), you have your system for another hundred years. But you can´t. Have you heard about "plutonomy"? Is the name of the game, according to a very nice paper an investment banker gave to his clients in Citibank.

From INVESTOPEDIA:

What Does Plutonomy Mean?
Economic growth that is powered and consumed by the wealthiest upper class of society. Plutonomy refers to a society where the majority of the wealth is controlled by an ever-shrinking minority; as such, the economic growth of that society becomes dependent on the fortunes of that same wealthy minority.

Investopedia explains Plutonomy

This buzz word was initially coined by analysts at Citigroup in 2005 to describe the incredible growth of the U.S. economy during that period despite increasing interest rates, commodity prices and an inflated national debt. Citigroup analysts argued that as such an economy continues to grow in the face of contradictory elements, the more important the society's ultra rich become to maintaining such growth. The analysts also believed that in addition to the U.S., Canada, Great Britain and China are also becoming plutonomies.

People is a plural term. People are more than one individual. Get a better command of the English language and try to make your point.

Machines built by people (actually designed by individuals) include the electric chair and the gas chamber.

So what is your point?

I live on $600 USD per month in Argentina.

I don't blame those who have or create more wealth than I have .

And I don't think expropriating their wealth (to redistribute it) will do much good for others, either.

I am working on increasing my income, but only as the result of my own efforts.

I like to think that quite soon the Argentinean model to deal with a crisis will be further analysed & investigated!

what is the Argentine model of crisis management?

The wealthy never believe they are wealthy enough. They have to compete with the Joneses. One area of competition I read recently is having your own private hanger for for your G5 all customized out in the latest furnishings.

When the English landowners drove the Irish to revolution or the French king drove the peasants to revolt in the French revolution, the rich will continue to take more and more until the peasants feel cornered.

We are many years from there. As long as Joe Six Pack has his cable TV and food stamps to buy some chips nothing will happen but eventually the rich will even insist on the potato chip money and then ...

Nooo my potato chip money, no they don't....No Pasaran!!!

you live in recoleta and have access and time to spend on the internet looking what gadgets are being marketed for billionaires.

by argentine standards, at least by conurbano standards, you are rich and they want to do to you what you want to do to them, and for the same reasons

Even by Argentine standards I doubt if I would be considered rich. I'm leaving Argentina because it has become too rich for my tastes, haha. Heading for cheaper pastures...

But the fact is, the rich do not pay their share. The US like most countries is in deficit. This is putting financial burdens on futures generations. This is unethical (and I don't even have any children). The current generation should pay it's bills.

It's also a fact that income inequality is at an extreme level. Don't believe me - look it up (Gini Coefficient)

Why don't any of you right wingers discuss the problem with income disparity?

Hasn't Fox given you the talking points on that yet?

What the hell are you talking about?

Do you really think all incomes should be equal?

What about housing?

If so, perhaps we should lall live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue...or in in huts...

Like some of the relatives of the current president of the USA.

Why is you assume that everyone who questions this is "right-wing"? Speaking for myself, I'm pretty damn liberal which is reflected in my voting.

Rejecting or questioning something doesn't automatically make you the enemy.
