Phelps 18 gold - Argentina 17 gold

My father would be ecstatic. I don't think it will happen. ;)

You may have a chance with the Euros, since they're expanding the finals to include half of European countries. Bloody ridiculous, this year's was just the right number. Imagine teams worse than Ireland performed in the finals.

Holland was worse unfortunatly

Sheez, I never argued that
Really? Just re-read your original post:

Money is really a Non factor in this
So, sorry, what exactly is your view on money and sporting success then? You've just contradicted yourself and this whole thread.

If you read the whole post you maybe understand the whole context of the posting.

Quite sad if you have to make your point by quoting a partial text.

Could you help me out then, and answer this question since it's now not clear what your view is on the subject:

Better yet you only invest in the 10-15 best athletes and get 5 medals out of them, that's the way most countries do it.

And the competition argument just doesn't hold true, most of the athletes Argentina send to the Olympics aren't even the best of there region or even from there border countries. Pretty worthless to go train with the best then. It's like training with Bolt if he runs the 200 meter in the same time as you do the 100 meter.

Athletes in Argentina can go to the Pamamerican games and that level is pretty decent or they can try to qualify for the World's in there sport, most of the time they have to do less to qualfy just because they don't have the high level of competition to qualify.

I don't have time now but I don't think that many of the athletes Argentina send made any kind of impact at the PanAmerican games or world championship, they mostly have been average at best

Just read a bit about the career of David Nalbandian, he and his family was quite poor but still he made it to the top 10 in his sport.

Back on topic

So you're not going to answer the question on the very issue that everyone had an issue with in your original post?? You're the one that seems to be changing the topic with this later post.

So come on, should be really simple question: Do you or don't you believe that the relatively low Argentinean medal total compared to Phelps/US is to do with the amount on money going into the sport in the US v Argentina?

Nope read OP

Ha ha, you're hilarious!! The first page is full of people disagreeing with your assertion that money has nothing to do with Phelps/US success, and now you want to turn around and deny that's what you wrote?!

Ha ha, this is becoming the funniest thread for quite a while on baexpats, well done!! :)

I'd like to nominate this thread for most obvious denial of the bleeding obvious of the year. Any other nominations or shall we just award it now??

Medals at olympics are won on talent, dedication and support from family, not on state funding
