Pizza Hut and KFC

I, too, am kind of surprised about the enthusiasm that KFC and Pizza Hut opening are being received with. Granted, Pizza Hut is way better than most Argentine pizza, but it's still essentially just fast food chain, and with it comes more fast food culture. Not one of the things that I want to see Buenos Aires inundated with. Then again, I'm no fan of the Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger King, etc., so just call me an agua fiestas.

Edited to add: to those who are excited to finally "eat good pizza again" have you ever tried making your own? It's easy, inexpensive, healthier than anything you'll order out, AND seriously delicious. Try it sometime!

Yes, I did try a million times but the main problem you see is the pizza dough, you can't make a good dough with a couple of pizzas at the time, it's almost impossible, I can make a dough as the ones they are making now at the pizzerias like a sort of uninspiring boring bread type but not with the elasticity of big and slightly greasy holes in it and outside with a golden crusty border, to do that you need to work the dough in so many phases and time is required for that, you will be better buying a ready pre-pizza toping it and chucking in the oven....real pizza dough seem easy to make but its not...

Nawww, it's really not that hard. Sometimes results can be hit or miss... and granted, you won't have a real pizza oven, but you can still make a damn fine pizza on your own at home without one and without having to resort to the premade crusts (yuck). If you're going to really go for it you can buy a pizza stone (or even just a slab of terracotta), but a regular pizza pan works just fine.

Here are a couple of recipes to try:

There are a couple of pre-packaged dough mixes that you can buy that aren't too bad (the best you have to leave to sit and rise after mixing), but you'll have the best results making your own and adding the yeast. I love the pizzas that I make here!

Are people being serious that they're excited about them opening here? I don't think I've ever stepped foot in a Pizza Hut or KFC but they sound..pretty gross in terms of food quality.

Am I missing a joke?

Miummy! Those delicious pollos de granja who had enough time to grow, run in wide & green landscapes, eat only very healthy corn... In fact, chicken so healthy that they don't need shoots of any kind! They are authentic.

I luv'it! :p Hurray!

Furthermore it's fried, served with french fries too (let's add a big coke with it). It's all good for your health!

Eating in any of our KFC locations worldwide is an unique experience, our products are not standardized!

The second time is the charm? Nah, our pizza is still better (naysayers, go away!) especially (and I am really tired of telling you) OUTSIDE the expat and rich areas, and people will like the novelty, try it for a couple of times, and never go again. It is simply foreign capital trying to find new sources of fast income since growth in the US is over.

Uncle, pizza in BA isn't what it used to be, toppings changed, dough elaboration changed, relation cheese dough thickness toppings changed, in resume the new pizza cookers lost the plot or in another words the 'recipe' from last generations....welcome to the mass production pizza chains...pizza enter one end and ready for delivery on the other end, that's progress and efficiency, milanesas, bread, empanadas all is elaborated that way now....all its frozen, stored and used again and again and again.

If you look for good Pizza in BA you can find it, with fresh made dough, good toppings, etc.

Come out to Chacarita right in front of Estacion Federico Lacroze, there are two amazing Pizza Places. The more famous one, with I would say lower quality, is El Imperio de Pizza. My favorite one with amazing dough quality, amazing, is Santa Maria, on the corner of Olleros and Corrientes.

As for Pizza Hut, it was a big part of my youth, but it has changed since then (we actually had a dine in Pizza Hut that was a part of the community, now closed). I will still probably try it out once it opens, but just to see what I think.

For those interested, there's an excellent restaurant (quite expensive) whom ownes are Uruguayans. There's a big "horno de barro" inside the restaurant room (had the chance to visit de kitchens too, there's another horno de barro, kitchen is huge and so clean you could eat on the floor).

The pizza I ate there was excellent.

I don't remember the direction but it's somewhere near or in belgrano, nearby a small park (maybe does someone know which one I'm talking about ?).

Yea! Finally a cultural reference I can peg onto for the perennial question ¿y de qué parte de los EEUU sos? Instead of, "Kentucky, you know like KFC. ¿Sabes que es eso? No, nevermind, I forgot it's only in every other country in Latin America."

Though I always secretly admired the Argentines that they chased out some American brands so that KFC was a flop in the past.
