Re: Expats And Politics - Expressing Opinions Publicly

When I was a kid, I was told

"Shhhh....even wall have ears. Look, think, analyze before you speak. And as far as possible never discuss politics and religion with anyone other than immediate family members. It can create unwanted turmoil in your life"

So I abide by it.

Get rid of all social media, especially facebook, put no true info. on it. Never share details of a personal nature with email. Put disinformation in emails.

Last Monday night when people were hanging out their windows banging pots in protest of Nisman's "death" my family here warned me to be careful about expressing opinions publicly. They have always been cautious as they've lived thru govts I could never imagine. They NEVER talk on the phone about certain subjects and are cautious with social media, blogs, email. I maintain caution. better safe than sorry.

Ceviche, Bob, good advice from both of you. Sometimes I am just very Norwegian, thinking that the rest of the world works the same way...

Yes. Thinking that the rest of the world including Oslo is like yhe Norden of your dreams is a mistake dearly payed by many scandinavian women.

And dearly paid in their country too. As they open their borders and expect "immigrants" to become Scandis in one generation

But Sweden and Norway have criminalized "racism" and also discussion of immigration and prosecute people who complain about it on social media, so I don't know why Noruega is saying the things she's saying. France, Scandinavia, are very repressive when it comes to free speech.

My other post hasn't shown up yet. I said you should get rid of all social media and watch what you say in email. Whether you are in Argentina, the USA, or Norway.

I grew up in Oslo, but I do want to clarify that I am not a completely innocent wide-eyed country bumkin! :D I spent three years in Central America, plus lost of work travel there after that (almost died twice in Guatemala), lived in different European countries, many years in the US and now two years here. People (friends, taxi drivers, colleagues, whatever) are constantly worried about me (I think both because of where I am from and because I smile a lot; that is seen as weakness or innocense many places) but I do take care of myself! I take precautions but of course anything can happen. Just don't want y'all to think I just stepped off the plane from OSL!

Here you are confuse about how law works.

The limit of freedom of speach is the prohibition of incitement to racial hatred (Ariel81).

There are always limits to rights.
