Robbed while traveling- experience & lesson learned

Never walk around La Boca during the day, not even in a group. Caminito is OK but be very vigilant.

Never fight back! LOTS of kids and adults carry guns and you never know...Mirtha Legrand, a kind of Argentinian Oprah who has had her own TV show over 40 years, recently organized a march against violence. This was sparked by the shooting of Caceres, an ex-futbolista, by a few kids (I think three have been arrested). This was not in CABA, though, but in an area called the Bermuda Triangle (where three villas come together).

My [Argentine] boyfriend always says that you need to "help" the thieves rob you, once you are in that situation. Only idiots resist. It is smart to prevent attacks from happening, but once you are a victim remain calm and help the attacker(s) feel in control of the situation. Calling out a man's name---one of the suggestions on the doc posted by Attorney in BA---is a good idea. The main point of the doc was to be aware and not allow a suspicious person to close in on you. If you keep distance, the attacker can't do anything.

Socks/shoes are another good hidden spot for cash, if it's not too hot outside!

There's a private project called Mapa de la Inseguridad (in Spanish) http://www.mapadelainseguridad.com/

You can't be serious, the narco's map (if its useful for anything) is probably best used as a map of the intersection of hysteria and internet connections in BA. There used to be a blog keeping track of the amusing entries ('they stole my socks and threatened me with a rubber penis') but I think they've even given up, barrelled fish being amusing for only so long.
