Thailand VS.Argentina

Oh my god thank you so much for this thread! I also lived in Bangkok before coming here, and I agree with you 100% about the pros and cons. Like you, I don't hate BsAs, but it just doesn't measure up to SE Asia. I think I might be a lot happier here if I hadn't lived there first!

And yeah, I would put the foot massages at the top of that list. And the heat. And the food, I could kill for some pad kapao moo right now, yumm...As for islands, Koh Samet will always be the classic for me, but maybe just for all the crazy times I had there. Koh Tao's also lovely.

Also, to qwerty, you've really got to live there before making those kind of judgments about it.

And oh yeah I really liked Ho Chi Minh city too - better than Hanoi, in my opinion, though I was just there for a few weeks.

Hanoi is a bit too ummmm..."communist" for my tastes.Apparently all the police in HCMC are brought in from the north.

I never made it to Samet,as I lived on Samui for 4 years.
Where in BKK did you live?

So, does anyone know where to get a Thai style foot massage?

I havent sussed it out here so I cant answer that, but I will say that even in Vietnam the foot massages given paled in comparison to those in Thailand..

If given by someone who knows reflexology they first bathe your feet in warm water with lime slices and orchid petals, then give a gentle hand massage on each foot using Tiger balm(smells great and very hot)then they wrap one foot in a towel while they work the other. They use a blunt wooden stick and proceed to apply deep pressure to all your points on your foot. You can literally feel tension just evaporate from your body.If done correctly you will be fast asleep within 20 minutes and when u wake up you want to do it all over again!:D

Oh wow, living on an island - that really must have been something. I was living and teaching in Laksi, by Don Muang - just a little north of Mochit BTS station.

I also want to add to the pros and cons list: while Thailand doesn't have as much dogshit, it has the horrible stray soi dogs. It's a toss-up for which is worse.

Is this what you guys are raving about ?

Maybe i'm just a prude but I wouldn't want a complete stranger fondling my feet.

yeah the strays are awful,I adopted 2 and theyre back home in my place in Nong Khai.
I used to rant on and on as to why the king didnt shell out some of his endless $ and gather up all the strays and fix them,as he supposedly has some strays of his own.

So you were out by Jatujak?
