The pregnant Russian trafficking network

Also let's wait 2 months. It would be interesting to see how many of those women "running away from the Putin regime" are back home in Russia with their babies. They flew alone so either their partners will join them at some point or they will go back...

There's a couple things going on here:
  • I think the justice system should investigate the trafficking networks, I'm sure there's tons of crimes going on there
  • I find it hilariously ironic that members of this board have the balls to call people "fake tourists" when this board was famously the info repository for how to come to Argentina as a "fake tourist", and now people are magically "concerned" about this because it's those gosh darned Ruskies doing it instead of Americans
  • Even if the women and their boyfriends/husbands leave Argentina after the kids are born, being a "fake tourist" isn't a thing in Argentina, let alone a crime, so there isn't even ex post facto case to be made here
  • Again, for the millionth time, why is Russians coming here to have kids an issue but those from neighboring countries not?
  • Finally, the solution is simple: if you want Russian women to stop coming here for birth tourism revoke visa free access for Russian citizens

lol. I do have empathy. I did say several times that the authorities should have handled this better. But let's no dramatize the whole story and play the victim card. Just because you are pregnant does not mean you can do annoying you want and get alway with it. Pregnant women do go to jail. Again these women at their own will flew half way across the globe when offered to be flown back they refused. End of story,

Your severe position is quite Clear..! Perhaps some forum members may empathize with your viewpoints. Next

Latest update, the police have been visiting the addresses declared by 25 new such arrivals, and were only able to confirm 3 of those actually staying at the addresses declared.

If you’re not doing anything dodgy, why would you declare a false or incorrect address?

Request VISA ? under what category ?
The Russian women are escaping from a dictatorship and war, looking for a better future, they deserve compassion. They are Immigrants like the ones that came escaping from the Tsars Pogroms. They aren't Putin soldiers.
There is also an option for medical treatment and another option “for any other reason” to be considered on a case by case basis by consular officials. But tourism these entries in question are not (just like visa runners or permanent overstayers renting an apartment here and working remotely etc etc regardless of their nationality who claim to be here for tourism when they arrive).

Also, going by the numbers published with the vast majority not sticking around post passport, and many voluntarily returning to said dictatorship, to imply they are all coming here to escape a dictatorship is like implying they are all spies who go on to Estonia or Slovenia with Argentine passports and newborn babies in tow. Like all of us here, every migrant has a unique case and motive, the individual isn’t the big issue. The big issues here are (a) organized crime and criminals involving potentially thousands of irregular migrants, (b) Argentine National interest on the global stage and (c) a neglected immigration system and outdated legal framework that is wide open for abuse that Argentines don’t want to see abused in this way (which like anything, only becomes an issue when it has become an issue.)

Have you ever considered that what you believe to be the weakness in the immigration system is actually a deliberate policy decision made by Argentina? They may have chosen to have a relaxed immigration policy to attract people. To bring up the population density in Patagonia, for example.

... Argentine National interest on the global stage ...
Regardless of how this situation turns out, I do not see how an attempt to kick out a group of pregnant women would enhance Argentina's reputation on the global stage.

Have you ever considered the migration statistics over the last 70 odd years? If it’s deliberate, then with a net migration rate of 0.087% per 1000 in 2022 from above 4% in the in 1950s, it’s a failure. (And that’s with a regional and global migration crisis in recent years.)

It’s not about kicking out pregnant women. It’s about ensuring Argentina can assure countries who currently grant its citizens visa free (or preferential visa) access that is knows who it is issuing passports to and these passport holders don’t pose a security risk. If its reputation says otherwise, Argentines will have less freedom to travel where they want. For this reason Montenegro last week announced it is following various other countries in scrapping its golden visa/ passport scheme (which almost all participants were of Russian nationality and a few too many were later caught doing dodgy business or espionage in European and other western countries) precisely because they don’t want to loose visa free access to Europe for their citizens.

So, immigration is not even a problem, but they wanted to kick out a group of pregnant women anyway? The child is not even born yet, but giving him a passport would pose a security risk? For Argentina?

Once the child is born (in about one month from entry in most of these cases where they are entering in the eighth month…) the mother and father automatically become eligible for PR and citizenship should they request it, without needing to wait 2 years - meaning it is a “cheap” “quick” and “easy” - effectively “no questions asked” - option for anyone to get a new citizenship , including people who have ulterior motives (criminal activities etc.)

Once they have their passport, they are free to leave Argentina and travel the world the same as any other Argentine citizen.

It’s explained pretty clearly by those actively promoting it.

If the law were as such that the parents would need to wait a few years in residence here before getting a passport, there really wouldn’t be anything for anyone to talk about as logically there would be no more or less concerns about new citizens with ulterior motives versus any other country’s new citizens (as acquiring citizenship by immigrants in almost all countries is a possibility with various paths to achieve it, but in almost all cases it takes at least a few years to get it).

The usual Google Translate deal, banner is in Castellano and story will initially appear in that tongue, but wait a few seconds and it will change to English.

This story will make the cynics among our community smile cynically-

But the issue did not end there: every day dozens of pregnant Russians arrive on flights from Moscow. Last night another 14 arrived, accompanied by a man. They had no problems entering the country, but when it was time to go through Immigration, the "in charge" of the group showed a passport that had an "orange alert" from Interpol, for which they were prevented from entering and ordered to the airline to return it to Moscow.

At that moment, the man faked fainting to buy time and, while he was being treated, a lawyer from the same organization that prosecuted the case and aspires to get the entry authorized arrived. The prognosis is reserved because "humanitarian" elements do not appear in his situation and his document appears as "lost" in the international police archives.

It is infuriating to see someone manipulating things so cynically.
Orange alert means he had a stolen or lost passport. Immigration has to check that he is he. It was the case.
