The Worst Tourist Season In 10 Years..!! Atlantic Coast

Yes, of course, clearly days and days of 35+ degree weather would make people want to avoid the beach And people who plan their vacations weeks if not months in advance would decide against the beach b/c they had a suspicion of(non-existant) bad weather in January.

January 2013 will go down as the worse tourist session since 2002 (bottom of default crisis).

The weekend economists on the Board can debate as to why ? who? when? an omen?
A writing on the Wall?
The prices were too high? The population had no money? Tourists went overseas?
February will be worse? the second half of February is shot since school starts Feb 20th?

Judging by the size of the queue of people waiting for the bus at Colonia Suiza today, February is looking pretty good; at least here in Bariloche!

The main factor is we had LOTS of feriados last years, plus the prices on the costa are ridicullus. Then the bad weather and of course, the crappy beaches we have... I'll pass, rather go to San Marcos Sierra, Capilla del Monte, Patagonia.

I read that Bariloche, Villa La Angostura and San Martin had the best summer for 10 years. Maybe everyone went south instead of the coast :)

What? lining for the Bus ? no way? Colonia Suiza is Out?

Prices in Pinamar / Carilo were out of control this year -- my husbadn's boss always goes for a month -- this year the place they wanted to rent asked 25,000 pesos for 4 weeks. They decided instead to take a place on the beach in Florianopolis for 16,000 pesos. Better beach, better weather, the difference in price went to the plane tickets.

Considering the amount of govt functionaries that also went abroad instead of being patriotic and supporting their home economy, it seems that even the most loyal K's realise that Argentina is no bargain when it comes to holidays anymore.

The answer is weather, simple like that.
We had the worst summer is decades.

Really?? Really? Because my suegra rents out her apartment every year and starts advertising as early as October and usually has the entire temporada rented by end of November. Last year she also had it full for the fiestas and for easter week. This year she never was able get anyone for the fiestas, nor for second quincena of february, forget about march or easter. So you really think WEATHER was the problem? FOr hundreds and hundreds of apartments like hers? Sorry,no weather has nothing to do with the large majority of the tourist population that plan their holidays well in advance. Weather only affects the last minute tourist that was thinking to go just for a weekend.

Which is another thing -- this year saw more and more people only going for a weekend or for a week instead of traditional 2 weeks or 1 month -- why? Again, not because of weather. Because of pricing.

85% ocupación en Bariloche,
90% ocupación en Las Grutas,
95% ocupación en El Bolsón,
& 100% ocupación en Playas Doradas (standing room only at the beach???)

Its a good job air travel is so expensive here compared to Europe.

If it was cheap not many people would bother to spend their holidays here in the summer.
