I would like to take advantage of all those bici lanes! In the US I rode a Vespa motor scooter but feel it would be too dangerous here. So I'm thinking about a bicycle. It'd be mostly to run some errands or use recreationally. I'm particularly curious about the folding bikes (I live on the sixth floor) or the E Trotter (which a serious cycling friend of mine thinks is the greatest!) has anyone had experiences with either of these? I've already been on line but honestly it wasn't much help. There are plenty of parking lots very close and I also have a balcony where I suppose I could keep it (covered?) although the elevator only fits three and I have sciatica. In general I am concerned with the comfort of the seat and handlebars. I don't want something that will make me lean forward I.e. No racing type handlebars Also would like some personal reccomendations on bike shops. I live in Recoleta but would go anywhere I can get to for good service :). Another option I suppose would be to buy a folding bike in the US when I'm there and bring it on the plane but it seems it would be more expensive by the time I add on the baggage(or customs?) charges Any opinions/ experiences ? Thanks in advance!

Good topic - I'm also in the market for a bike. I'm thinking 1-3 speed no frills basic beach cruiser type - do they exist here?

I heard the best thing to do is buy the worst looking bike you can possibly find, otherwise it might disappear.

I've already enquired regarding theft. If you park your bike in a parking garage they are by law only allowed to charge you about 20% of what they charge cars, actually a little less than that. And of course always keep it locked!

In our building there are hooks for bici's in the garage, you may have the same.

For folding bikes there are a couple of local manufacturers:
*RODADOS AURORA
http://www.aurorabikes.com.ar/descripcion-bici.php?marca=1&bici=173&linea=20
*LORDAN
http://www.lordan.com.ar/segunda.htm?Submit2=Ingresar

I've been told good things about Aurora but can't personally vouch for them.

For bike shops, here are a few where I've had decent experiences:
*Canaglia

*Furia

*Espindola

*Bicicletería Nodari

*Newbikes | Tienda de bicicletas on line

*Sin Limite

Hello lacoqueta-san, I have one of these bicycle which are hybrid-human pedal power with elctric motor assist when you need the extra torque-power. You sit on these bikes in a very natural posture with high handle bars and also comes with baskets front and back. If not needed they de-attach in a flash. See them here..https://www.google.com/search?q=yamaha+hybrid+bicycle&rlz=1G1SNNT_ENUS515&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=yXBEUoCrNsL7iwLx34GIBQ&ved=0CDcQsAQ&biw=1149&bih=572&dpr=1

Yeah they seem really cool but I think the only thing locally available may be the E trotter. And they're not in stores-- you make an appointment and they come to you. Forum: anyone have the E trotter or similar bike that you got HERE?
Hybrid there's a Yamaha motorcycle dealer very close. I'll stop by there and see if they are available here. I suspect not because of the import tax and price tag.
