Train accident in Once (linea Sarmiento) 340 wounded

TBA (the company operating this line) is privately owned since 1995 (thanks to Menem).

The group owning TBA also owns train repair facilities (and guess who they choose to repair the trains... themselves). They receive more than 100.000.000$ annually as subsidies.

Here the supposed incomes/expenses of TBA:

Regardless of the politics and who is to blame, this is a tragedy and it is a shame that this happened.

I wasn't surprised to see this at all. Yes, the toll is shocking, but we've seen it before and sadly, we'll see it again.

At least 49 dead and 600 injured. It is such a waste. And even with all this loss, the problems won't be fixed and this will happen again. All these people died and got hurt for nothing. And the public will most likely forget about this in a week or so and move on.

Where is the anger? Where are the people demanding change? Look at how crazy the Afgans are over a burning of the Quran. 49 people died here, where is the outrage?

Things will never get better until the Argentines themselves stand up and stop taking this shit. I understand that this crash was an accident, but it could have, and SHOULD have been prevented.

Argentina has so much potential, but they refuse to stand up and try to reach that potential.

When brakes fail on a train, they are applied. Guaranteed the fail-safe system was compromised by humans and every manger is in CYA mode: "I know nothing." It is times like this I like the way the Chinese deal with managerial negligence, death by firing squad.

The group running TBA operates (still?) an airline company... Makes you wonder, fasten your seatbelt

That is why I find the accident to be weird. However, the State should have replaced all the old trains already, it was taking too much time. Now, this happened at 20 km/h, can you imagine at a normal suburban train speed?

True but when the general public gets riled up, something usually gets done (remember the nightclub fire and all the boliches were shut down afterward)

The same nightclub fire that resulted in Bartolome Mitre being closed for years so that a makeshift memorial to the dead could stand in the middle of the street, the same closed street that complicated the rescue effort in today's crash...

I'm hoping that his tragedy will open up a whole can of worms; that is if the investigation/enquiry is impartial.
The images on TV were heartbreaking and I hope for the sake of those who died and were injured, that maybe....just maybe, something will finally be done about the appalling state of public transport in this country.

Or if not, at least they'll start running low on rolling stock and need to start thinking about how to upgrade...

The accident occurred on the first anniversary of the detention of José Pedraza in connection to the homicide of Mariano Ferreyra.

I can't believe the desperation in trying to defend the Federal K Government.

KORRUPTION KILLS ! TBA has been HEAVILY SUBSIDIZED BY K....TBA & the Ks have had a cosy relationship for years!

KIRCHNER CAN CLOSE DOWN THE CURRNENCY EXCHANGE.!
KIRCHNER CAN CLOSE DOWN IMPORTS!
KIRCHNER CAN SHUT DOWN A STREET DEMONSTRATION BY MALVINAS ex SOLDIERS IN 2 MInUTES!
KIRCHNER CAN THREATEN YPF & GET IT to pay up TAXES!
KIRCHNER CAN SPY ON US WITH PROYECTO X!
KIRCHNER CAN FORCE LA RIOJA INTO SUBMISSION to THE MINING CORPORATIONS!

But KIRCHNER CANNOT CONTROL A SMALL KORRUPT RAILWAYS FIRM?????? In all these years???? REALLY!????

Do you & marcsoc insist that this negligence should be allowed to continue?

Doesn't the record speak for itself?

THE FEDERAL K GOV IN SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE RAILWAYS NOW....NOT MENEM!

.... THE KIRCHNERS HAVE BEEN IN POWER OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS - NOT MENEM!!!

STOP TRYING TO DEFLECT THE RESPONSIBILITY AWAY FROM THE Ks by looking for scapegoats!

Why has Cristina repeatedly made public announcements promising that they were going to fix the broken railways system & WHY has NOTHING ever been done yet? NOTHING in 8 years?

And now we have to grin & bare Kretina on TV acting like she's going to shed a tear for the victims?????????
SINCE WHEN DID SHE EVER CARE????

Is her highness going to talk to the victim's relatives & explain why the FEDERAL K has REPEATEDLY REFUSED to put any money into the broken railway system & instead chose to piss it all up the wall for the election fiesta? Futbol para todos!!! Aerolineas !!! netbooks!!! Choripans!!! Viva la REINA!!! state owned Aerolineas squanders 1,500,000,000 dollars a year & yet they can't maintain a basic railway network????

NO trains to Ezeiza yet? When any civilized country in the world has a train line linking the capital to the main national airport.

And why is her highness refusing to get on national tv & address the victim's families directly? WHY NOT A NEWS CONFERENCE where reporters can ask her questions directly???????????????????????????????
