Visa - Certificate of criminal records

My DNI only cost me $15 pesos.

$300 dollars for a DNI may not be as great a bargain , especially with the new system up and running, hopefully speeding up the "normal" process.

Nonetheless, I have only heard positive comments about Gabriel.

[I gather the FBI is the US has an efficient service, but other places... whoa. Good luck with it.
The FBIs service is extreemly efficient. My total turn around time was about 9 days. And their document does not require an apostille.[/quote]

Hi ghost, how long ago was this? My fingerprints should have arrived at the FBI offices 6 weeks ago. They have warned that there is now an 8 to 10 week turn-around, but my credit card has still not been charged and when I called last week the woman who helped me said it wasn't abnormal as the prints must go through many steps before ever entered in the system. That seems strange to me. Has anyone else sent fingerprints off to the FBI recently?

allcraz, I just got my precaria. It took 6-7 weeks to get my FBI records from around October to November. I'd say it looks like the process is taking longer now. I was surprised when I read ghost saying 9 days, actually. That would have been wonderful!

Hang in there.

Can you request the records through a website from the FBI? Is it necessary to ask the FBI or the local police of where you lived for the last 5 years - for instance the Phoenix police department?
Call the US Embassy in BA. They will mail a finger print chart to your home in BA. Go to your local police station in BA. Get fingerprinted. Mail the chart and a request for a criminal records search to the FBI along with a check. [see Dept. of State web site or FBI site]
They will will mail it back with a stamp on it. It does not require an apostille. [and immigrations in BA knows that the apostille is not required on an FBI document]
Easy as that.

Here you can find the FBI Background Check form and the instructions. This is what I used to get my residency. Can someone please re-confirm that the apostille isn't needed? I only ask because I had to get it apostilled but I want to be clear if its mandatory or not to inform others correctly in the future.

There seems to be some confusion about the FBI/Apostille. I had friends who did not require it but have just heard from my lawyer that it is now required to be apostilled. I dont know the answer to that.

If this is true this is new, but your Argentine lawyer can't get the Apostille for the FBI report (or an exemption from it) you can he/she?

And if it is true, it is just one more indication that thing are "tightening up" at migraciones.

Even though there may not have been a change in the law.

It could simply be a change in policy.

Hello,

Anyone know what is the English equivalent to the below visa criteria:

"Certificate of criminal records issued by the country of origin or the place where the person has lived for the last 5 years prior to his/her entry to the country (only required for those people who are over 16 years old)"

I asked a friend who is a detective in London and all he could think of was a "CRB (Criminal records bureau)" - but that wouldn't work in this situation as the company inquiring needed to contact the police direct, bypassing the individual related to the query.

Most of the answers in this thread so far seem to presume that you are from the USA or somewhere other than the UK. If you are a UK citizen and have been living in the UK for the past five years or more, you do not need this certificate. The question came up recently on a British ExPats board - see http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=642189 Check with the Argentine Embassy in London if you still have doubts.

Yikes!
I had no idea, was told explicitly that I needed my UK police record, apostilled, and then translated.
Really hope this is true, its going to save a lot of time and money if so.

jp - Whilst I agree most replies here refer to US citiznes, I needed a Garda Report from Ireland, suitably translated and apositiled, so I would think you will from the UK - Don't get your hopes up just yet....
