What fresh insanity is this?

I agree with you. Every week there seems to be a new and horrifying headline in the paper that just wouldn't be tolerated in most countries. Argentines just seemed so resigned to it though.

This lowering of the voting age has got to be the final straw surely?

Guys, guys, guys.....

I criticize Argentina as much as the next person, but let's not get carried way, shall we? This passiveness when faced with outrageous news is not unique to Argentinians. Let's not forget that the US has literally legalized torture, warrant less wire taping and summary execution of American citizens who are labeled "enemy combatants" by the president. Let's not forget the porn scanners and the outrageous practices by the TSA at airports. The US debt just topped 16 TRILLION without nay indication that government spending will slow down. Meanwhile, the US operate 12 nuclear aircraft carriers, more than TWICE the number of aircraft carriers operated by the rest of the world PUT TOGETHER. Should we mention stakes like Kansas where creationism is thought in public schools or the hysteric Islamophobia sweeping the Midwest? How about the people who were shot dead because they were wearing turbans and the jackass shooter thought they were Muslims?

So considering that the Bill of Rights is worth as much as toilet paper, the government is running the US economy into the ground and we are fighting two wars we can't possibly win, let's try to keep things into perspective. Yes, there is a lot of shit happening here in Argentina and I do not like it one bit. But let's not pretend this is the only mad house in town, shall me?

So they gather complaints and then what? Does the city government have the authority to kick the campora out of public schools?

I'm glad to hear that there's a resistance to blatant indoctrination in schools... however late and soft it is. Hopefully they find a way to stop it.

Yes it is so sad that traitors are not afforded their rights in a country that they have vowed to wage a war against. I am no fan of Obama but Awlaki got what he deserved so let's dispense with the BS that his assassination was somehow oh-so-unjust.

People in this part of the world (North and South America) find it easy to cry about the deaths of such people, try living in or around Yemen and you might have a different perspective.

Now as for Argentina, sure there are places far worse than Argentina but the fact of the matter is we are all living in Argentina...it doesn't matter if worse shit's going down elsewhere...doesn't make the challenges in this country disappear.

The Bill of Rights does not say "due process only for those who did not betray the US".

Everyone, independent of nationality or crime they are accursed of having committed is entitled to due process according to the Bill of Rights. We don't do it for them. It is NOT a favor or an act of kindness to the enemy. We do it for ourselves. We deserve it. We earned it. That is American. That is how we remain better than those who are out to destroy us. Otherwise, what are we fighting for? What are we defending?

Let me see. Somobody in this Forum must be new to this country. He (or she) is disgusted becausse the City goverment set up a toll free phone line to help denounce an ILEGAL activity!!!. Is that bad?
Shouldn´t he (or she) be horrorized by seeing Cristina´s efforts to create a form of Hitler Youth movement, or Mao´s Revolucionary Guards?.
I just recreived a copy of an air ticket (issued by AA) to send one (of many members) of La Campora to act as"overseers" to the national elections in Venezuela!!! All expenses paid for a month!!!.
Are they going to be "neutral" observers? Yea, sure. When is all this insanity is going to stop? How is it going to end?
I am already crying for you, Argentina.

That is my point exactly. We wonder how the Argentinians don't see their failings, but we have a hard time dealing with ours too.

Don't get me wrong, for long term residence, I will choose the US over Argentina any day of the week. However, I think we get too carried away sometimes bashing Argentina, forgetting that our roofs are made of glass too.

Well the good thing is the Bill of Rights is not the whole of the constitution. Legally, article 3 can be used to make a case against Awlaki, no problem whatsoever.

I won't be commenting on this here anymore since the US constitution is not what this forum is about. If you'd like a discussion on this, send me a PM.
