And, from the Buenos Aires Herald; http://www.buenosair...end-of-peronism
Life at the End of Peronism - that'll make the expats happy, just don't read the rest - it's not the calming draught of laudanum you are hoping for.

Glad to see that my favourite pizza chef Julio 'Extra Cheese' Bárbaro cracked a mention. Though in contrast to Andrew Graham-Yooll's claim that he is 'the only remaining rabid supporter of first-term Peronism' I seem to recall Julio last year stating that his all time fave was Peron's third term which might make him the only rabid supporter of third-term Peronism to have ever existed post 1974.

Its whatever you want it to be, Leftist socialist paradise? Communist? Neo-Liberal Rightwing conservatives? Centralist? Libertarian?

Doesn't matter as long as the pockets are being lined, Peronism will pretend to be whatever you want it to be.

Let's just say it is a very versatile ideology.... :D

Nope. Peronismo has its slogans, has its songs, anthem, etc. I suggest you listen and watch them, they clearly are something very defined. The anthem says "combatiendo al capital". In fact, Peronism flags are historically defined as the exact opposite of Neo Liberalismo. THE EXACT OPPOSITE. No privatization but nationalization, no free market but Keynesianism, no unemployment but full employment level, no poverty but prosperity, no agrarian or financial capitalism but industrial capital, no deindustrialisation but investment in sustitution of imported goods by national industry. The opposite of all these Neo Liberal stuff is what peronismo claims the identity of the movement.

So Neo Liberalism was no peronismo, although they used the Peronismo slogans in campaign and there were lot of other signals likely Peronists.

Yes you are right, Carlos Saúl Menem member of the Justicialist Party, former president and current senator who went with "Neo Liberal" policies (along with the current lot in power) wasn't a peronist at all!

:D

Whatever lines their pockets at the time is what they are.....

If you know how to read, I said there were lots of peronists elements in his campaign in 1989. Please, do me a favor and Google SALARIAZO Y REVOLUCION PRODUCTIVA. There were a lot of historical elements. In fact, during his campaign in 1989, in a national panorama of HYPERINFLATION, he had one speech here in Argentina to the people, and the opposite outside (mainly in US) for the big capital, telling that he would sell everything the state had and all kind of market orientated policies.
Different was his re election in 1995, but lots of peronists called him traitor for his first mandate.

I strongly suggest to you to re read my post. Neo Liberalism is the opposite of historical Peronism. It was an accident that Neo Liberalism came from PJ and using Peronists slogans. There were also lots of other factors, as an image campaign with Menem (for instance, during hyperinflation -till 1993- he had a good percentage of good image cause he used to practice popular sports. Then, after the situation calmed down, he started to practice golf with his bankers friends). Things like this, elements like this, like the Ferrari, women, football, populism elements in public speeches, etc, were very common. He had all the press on his side.
