Hi All,

I'm sorry if this has been asked before in another thread but I've never seen any similar discussion (I admit, I haven't trawled through every possible thread in the search bar).

We seem to have quite a diverse and distinguished bunch on this forum with a lot of different backgrounds and experiences. So my question is, what do all the expats/natives do for work here?

I am quite interested to know what sort of jobs people have managed to find in Argentina and whether you all actually enjoy what you do.

Who knows, maybe we can start coming together to provide each other with different services.

I'll start off and if you're interested feel free to join in:

I work for a global payments company, doing all of their ad work, digital marketing and website content for the region. I used to work as a writer and editor for a number of different publications.

I do business development in Latin America for a rather large and ubiquitous technology company.

Hi there! Sounds like you have an interesting gig! Is the company based here or do you do everything online?

I work as Creative Director for a small design/web agency in Palermo, specialising in the hotel/hospitality sector. 90% our business comes from Europe. I also do some freelance graphic / web design in my own time.

If you don't mind me asking, did you come here with the job or did you get it here?

I came with the job. They wanted me to go to Sao Paulo. Since I hate Sao Paulo, I told them "no dice". We then compromised on BA.

Yeah, I love the work. The company is based in the USA, so I work online with an agency based here. I managed to wing it so that I could work from home, rather than the office.

How do you find the work environment here? Do you work with Argentines or fellow expats?

I am an accountant (exciting stuff!). Was transferred here with my company back in Aust for a minimum of 2 years. The main motivation was to be with my Argentina girlfriend, and in that way was lucky when I sought something here that there was something available.

I work in the oilfield on a 28/21 day rotation giving technical support and training the locals in the host location. I havent actually worked in Argentina since the mid 90's, I just spend my off time here with my Argentine family.

trennod - I came here for the exact same reason, so I totally understand your motives! How's it working out for you here? I got married on 2010, so I'd encourage anyone to do that - as long as they know what they're getting themselves into!

hannstew - That sounds like a seriously interesting job! Where abouts are you based? I'm assuming you must have worked in the industry long before you came over here.

I'm an entrepreneur and I have my hands in a number of different business ventures here, but by far my biggest venture in Buenos Aires is a taxi management company. We operate the taxis for the owners, so we do a little bit of everything -- HR to find the drivers, light repair and maintenance work in our shop, and of course all the accounting, paperwork, and book-keeping that goes with all of this. Taxis are a great business here.
