When will life return to normal?

You guys all think like Randian individuals, rather than members of a community.
The way you eat without money is by helping each other. And, on the micro scale that means charity, barter, and growing small urban gardens. On the Macro scale, that means government programs to distribute food, help subsize growers with fuel, fertilizer, and labor, and to minimize hoarding.

This is not rocket science- its been done hundreds of times for hundreds of years.

If everybody holes up with their toilet paper fort, their firearms, and their I got mine attitude, civilisation does, indeed crumble.

But historically, in times that are tough, people survive by banding together and helping each other, not hoarding, prepping, and shooting zombies.

It happening already in the rural area where I live- people are volunteering to make food runs for the elderly and sick, food producers are making an extra effort to supply individuals in need, and we are feeding each other.

All that requires people to play the game and for the most part to be on the same side. My attitude is 100% not for everyone to batten down their hatches and to take an attitude of what is mine is mine and what's yours is yours. While it is not rocket science, it is easier said than done to get peole to adopt the idea of community as a means to solutions to a problem. Let's not forget, it usually has to start at a governmental level as you suggested.

It's also failed hundreds of times for hundreds of years as much as it has been successful.

I just read a post a guy I know made, on another forum. This a man who built a high tech manufacturing company from nothing, he has 50 employees. He was responding to a poster (a machinist) who was complaining he was getting fewer paid hours.

"Look out for your neighbor and stop being a whiny self absorbed idiot"

Thats what I am trying to do.
You guys can do what you want.

Personally, I think Argentina would be a pretty good place to be- It is geographically and financially isolated, produces far more food than it consumes, and has a relatively "socialist" history, which means both the people, and the government, would endure wage and price controls, government subsidies and food distribution, and rationing, much better than the bunch of spoiled teenagers with guns playing video games in their mom's basement we have in the USA.

I got two dozen eggs yesterday, fresh from the chickens, for 4 bucks a dozen (low price for organic here) from a neighbor a few miles away- we met in the parking lot of the rural post office. I also bought 2 dozen oysters, fresh from the bay, from the family that raises and harvests them. Friends will get you thru hard times much better than money will. At least, in my 64 years here on earth, that has been my experience.

Who do you know that needs help? Turn off the internet and go do something for somebody else- it does wonders for your attitude.

@Ries Since the outbreak started you have been living in a bubble of making it sound much easier than it is. First downplaying the severity of the situaiton and comparing it to tornados, and pointing out how your life is the blueprint for riding out the pandemic. For example, subtly mocking those who were prepping before adding that you basically had a preppers setup with stocked food and isolation. Now, all you need is friends and you will be fine. I wonder how many people with friends die of hunger each year? I wonder how many people with friends find themselves financially overburdened to the point of not being able to cope?

Your life allows you to ride out this storm, fine, and I certainly don't reject the idea of leaning on friends, family, and community to get through hard times. However, you make it sound like it is THE answer and why don't we all just get our heads out of the sand. I am asking myself if the people in the villas, who maybe only have friends in the same socio-economic situation as them, are feeling secure because they have some buddies to help them.

Here is one way to look at it ... somewhat hopefully:

There's a lot of experts that believe this virus doesn't do well in hot humid climates. I posted some videos on this recently in my original Corona virus thread.

This is further evidenced by the fact that community spread has been very mild here. Most of the folks got it overseas and brought it back to Argentina.

Argentina has a month or so of warm weather. Let's hope for an Indian Summer.

Argentina closed off its air space early unlike the Idiocracy in the rest of the planet.

I predict the numbers will go down in the coming two weeks. Positioning Argentina very well compared to most of the northern hemisphere.

This will give time for respirator production and planning for how to bring people back to work.

Having everyone stay at home is going to lead to chaos. A case of the cure being worse than the disease.

As a person at the risk age, I understand I may have to pay the ultimate price.

But life must go on.

Ries: Don't see the point in bashing teens with guns who play in basements.
Those same teens are likely good prepping advisors since a lot of games are just about that, gathering resources and handling SHTF scenarios.
Should have saved your typing skills for something more practical.

I was going to suggest everyone here to give your closest regular bum a helping hand.
They are more desperate than you are and they own the streets.

You never know, they might return the favor...

How sweet, how bucolic, how utterly useless information....

Hmmm this is interesting and I can see why it might just work and be a good dam to hold the it back. Let's hope the next trials are as favorable as the first results. We shall see. Azithromycin and or Zithromax is in my antibiotics stash it is a great wide spectrum antibiotic. I am curious about the availability of hydroxychloroquine down here I will have to look into that. I am sure it is here but can they ramp it up.

Of course, the herd brains in some parts of the world are on to this and being nuts with it already. People in Nigeria heard about it and are already running after it and overdosing while at the same time messing with the supply of these meds at the same time. And there is a need for more trails here for sure. The sooner the better. Even it is 50% effective with serious cases that would really lighten the load for the medical world. Speed up recovery and open beds up etc.

This is a we shall see post but I found it interesting. Lets see what more trials bring.

Change is normal.

Reach out and help others.

Slow down.

Do less.

Be present.

This pandemic gives us the perfect opportunity for change.

The population of the greater Buenos Aires city is around 13 million people. Even if we assume only 10% will left be in a bad enough economical state to be without food, that would be 1.3 million people running around with fishing rods and sling shots. Poor birds and fish, I say.
You are not reading the news. Nobody is going to be in that situation. The government is going to pay 30.000 pesos per private employed to avoid the layoff.
You don’t have to pay services like electricity, internet and even the rent for 6 months.
The army is taking control of the poorest areas in order to provide free food.
The State is taking control of the situation very well.
Today I read that they buying a large number of coffins too. :(
Wait and see, but wait home.
