Why did you break up with your partner?

The minute I decided to retire, the whole world turned on its head upside down.

Did not realize nothing, till a year after divorce, looking back, all the pieces of the puzzle.

This sounds a lot like Retired Husband Syndrome which is chronic in Japan.

Retired husband syndrome (主人在宅ストレス症候群 Shujin Zaitaku Sutoresu Shoukougun[sup]?[/sup], literally One's Husband Being at Home Stress Syndrome)[sup][1][/sup](RHS) is a psychosomatic, stress related illness which has been estimated to occur in 60% of Japan's older female population.[sup][2][/sup] It is a condition where a woman begins to exhibit signs of physical illness and depression as their husband reaches, or approaches, retirement.[sup][2][/sup]

She hated the idea that I don´t need (or want) to go back to work for something less than I used to.
So it was just a matter of you not bringing home anymore bacon? Nothing else? No tango instructor?

Straight forward in my face.

Did not see it, refused to see it, didn´t get it, 19 years, ... nothing, not even kids.
Took me even one whole year after divorce (additional to the 19) to get it.

Aren't you supposed to be still getting money when you retire? Whether is social Security or IRA, etc?

It might not have been the money, but the idea of spending a lot of time together :( when you have to work, that is not an issue. In the end, it is better that it was 19 years and not 30 right?
