Did Snowden make a mistake by not fleeing to Argntina?

Does the Argentina government really have the willpower and ethical backbone or even resources to give someone asylum? Seems like the first corrupt politician that had something to gain would sell him out. Or is there some precedent to prove or disprove this impression? It's just a feeling really. The people would surely welcome him though.

I wondered the same thing. Argentina might have been a good choice. The precedent is 9-11 videographer, Kurt Sonnenfeld. He has asylum here.

Interesting case I wasn't aware of it. Still I would suppose the pressure to extradite Snowden would be many orders of magnitude more than that of Sonnenfeld. If Sonnenfeld really had any evidence shoring up the 911 truth movement, he would have released it by now. Snowden can surely continue to be a big embarrassment, and is likely in immediate peril of being assassinated, which to my mind would also be relatively easy here.

I don't think Argentina wants to aggravate the US government any more than they already have, but I could be wrong. Ecuador would seem likelier - interestingly so, for a country whose president has penalized the press far more than Argentina has.

My money's on Ecuador, although that would pile up a few more woes for them bearing in mind Assange being in London.

Cristina would probably give him shelter, but then what? If, come next elections, or the one after, there is a major political shift in Argentina, he might see himself in a tough spot.

Kurt Sonnenfeld is a fraud and a murderer who shot his wife in the head while he was high on drugs and booze. He has had 12 years to produce evidance but has failed beyond some marginally interesting "thermite" shots. He's spin doctored his story and is living here and living well as a protected murderer.
