How Has South America Changed You?

Well, with all the filthy peso bills you have to touch here, washing your hands after bathroom doesn't make such a huge difference anyway.

Corrientes Y Callao, What's Good? (Bars, Restaurants, Etc.)

Some of my favorite places in this neighborhood: Pasaje Santos Discépolo (there is a theater, and also a bar in front of it, which organizes poetry nights, etc.), Paseo La Plaza. Bodegón Norte (a traditional bodegón porteño), is not far away (Talcahuano 953). The coffee house on Lavalle and...

Máximo Carlos Kirchner / Bajo Cero / Wild Horses

Is this so? I think it depends on the country the money is coming from. I also think public officials get special scrutiny. I am not a fraud/money laundry expert though. But you sound so sure...

Don't Ask Me! I Don't Know! I'm Just The Minister Of Economy

That could be true. But I was just pointing out some limitations, in my view, of the misery index.

Don't Ask Me! I Don't Know! I'm Just The Minister Of Economy

And regarding that misery index, which is not a poverty index btw, I will say again what I said in the other thread where it was discussed, i.e. that if I had to choose between 25% inflation rate and 5% unemployment or 25% unemployment and 5% inflation rate, I would choose the former over and...

Don't Ask Me! I Don't Know! I'm Just The Minister Of Economy

The speed of light can be measured objectively. As for poverty, sure there are various agreed upon definitions and methodologies to measure it. You know, social sciences tend to work like that!. (Again, this is not Physics). And btw, it's important when comparing among countries and across time...

Lately O Is Starting To Scare The Hell Out Of Me

mmm, as an exercise, I would try to argue for or against each one of these points, while making sure to avoid using labels like uhuh Socialist, Populist or whatever. Try that for a change!

We Rode The Buque Francisco From Montevideo!

Yeah, the foot cover thing was ridiculous. Plus many people were loosing them on the boat anyway. I mean, for goodness sake, I know we are not used to getting many new things over here, but it's just a boat! BTW, I rode a newish boat called Francisco in Ushuahia as well. Oh well.

Don't Ask Me! I Don't Know! I'm Just The Minister Of Economy

The point is, you can talk about the number of people earning below a certain amount, you can talk about the number of people not having access to sewage system, you can even talk about people not getting a certain number of calories per day... but number of poor people? it's like asking...

    Programmer Salary Question

If you can say how much you're making right now and where, that would help to assess your question better. Me personally, I think it would be very difficult to save something on that salary even if you don't have a family to support (and it would be impossible if you had one). And btw, research...

    Young Expat Or Fool?

Obviously I'm not gonna tell you whether AR$20,000 monthly makes sense or not... You probably know how much you could be making in the states and what kind of lifestyle you could afford there. But I think it's safe to say you are not here for the money. Then make it a learning experience. Sounds...

    World Misery Index: Argentina

I'm not gonna even enter the discussion about the particular case of Argentina lol. Just saying that the index assigns the same level of misery to two situations completely different, at least to me, from such misery point of view.

    World Misery Index: Argentina

If I had to choose between 25% inflation rate and 5% unemployment or 25% unemployment and 5% inflation rate, I would choose the former over and over again. BS.

Xoom: Cash Pickup Vs. Bank Transfer

I had a very specific question, i.e. account deposit vs cash pick up, and I had not seen it addressed in the previous discussions. Btw, update on the topic, I'm still entangled in the nerve-wrecking verification process with Xoom. They asked for copies of two photo IDs and bank statement. Sent...

Xoom: Cash Pickup Vs. Bank Transfer

I need to make a Xoom transfer to myself from my US account (I'm currently in Argentina). I was wondering which option will be faster: to use cash pickup or to transfer to my Argentinian account? It would be more convenient to transfer to my Argentinian bank account, but then I'm worried the...

Can Somebody Recommend A Photoshop For Us Embassy Mugshots

Thanks for all the recommendations. I hope to have better luck now. I definitely do not recommend the one on Callao and Juncal. Even though they do have the Kodak logo, and even though they claim to have been trained by ICANA, they do not know the embassy rules: size, resolution, no retouching, etc.
