3D Tv: Is It Worth It?

Back in 2006 or so, my 70 Sony XBR HD was retailing for approx US$8000 I think? But have insider's connection for all SONY products so paid US$4000 or around that figure ? It was one of the first HD TV's on the market back then. But had to buy a Hughes HD converter to be able to watch it in 1080 format.

Those images on HD was just a dream come through, the clarity, and vivid, colours so brilliant and can swear watching super bowl, could see those close up shots showing the bead of sweat on players face ! My jaw dropped, mouth open
and just unbelieable emotion felt, I remember ! ...Now recounted the same experience when I saw those 4K images recreated through the 85' Sony UHD TV once again!..I don't need the 3D feature, the SONY TVs are so good that no 3D effect needed IMHO..Just a UHD or 4K will do..

It is all about input data and not so much about hardware specs.
If data is poor or insufficient it will make your hi end tv look like shit. Goes without saying that cable tv providers in Argentonia do not have use enough bandwith to sustain a decent HD TV service.

For your 3D contents you will have to provide your own source material, mostly bluray. The bootlegged ones are compressed already so you get less than the full deal, same as with copies DVDs that come in single density blank media instead of the 8.5 double density industrial standard.

HD TV is fine, specially if you hook it up to your computer as a monitor. Above that is still far away in the future of local expectations.
3D is pretty much useless.
If you want better quality, look for frequencies starting 120MHz and above, that will enhance your viewing experience and not wear your eyesight so fast.

steveinbsas, so which brand of TV are you contempleting to purchase?
I fanatically recommend the SONY brand...Its resolution and colour tuning has the Japanese touch, just sublimely human !

Hybrid Ambassador, I started this topic at the end of March in 2014 after receiving an email from Gabarino. They had a four day on line sale on a 47" LG LED Smart TV with 3D for $12000 pesos and 12 quotas 0f $999 without interest.

After reading the replies in this thread as well as negative customer reviews of LG TVs on amazon.com I decided not to buy it.

I made the post about the 39" Philips on sale for for $5999 with 18 payments at 0 interest on Friday just to spread the word...

I bought a 40" Samsung LED TV (not Smart and not 3D) last May for $5999 with 12 payment at 0 interest. I am very happy with it.

I understand how you feel about SONY but they don't have nearly as good of a reputation in Argentina as Samsung.

Hmm, very well, can you cite the source of SONY not so good reputation there in Argentina? After reading it, will write
to SONY to correct the specifics of reason(s) of such reputation. I know, quality costs but no good reputation ?

Most of the negative comments about SONY flat screen TVs in Argentina have been made by salespeople in the stores. This was the case in 2006 at the Garbarino sucursal in Recoleta and also the case in the Garbarino sucursal in Bahia Blanca a year ago. I think there have been a few negative comments here as well, perhaps in another thread I started about flat screen TVS.

I also "found" the customer reviews of Samsung TVs in the USA to be more positive than those for Sony. at least those I read on amazon.com...and I read hundreds of reviews.

Oh, then it make sense, the Koreanos at it again. Allways bad mouthing anything coming from Japan and/or Japanese people.
Probably the K's(Korea) not Kirchner, paying those salesmen to bad mouth the Sony,Panasonic,Sanyo etc.any products Japanese origin.
I have seen them in department stores in Lima,Peru. Once I was there to see the prices of Sony Vaio lap top then suddenly been approached by a sales guy and rapidly started taking me away from the Sony displayed area into Sumsung/LG booth.

When I said
I'm not interested on anything made in Korea which are all based in Japanese technology anyways, he started tellin' me the Sumsung is this and the LG's this so on and on. I said to him, handsome spiff money from the Koreanos to you sales people? He said Yes ! Sony gives nothing but the Koreanos spiffs them big!..Thus the bad mouthing and besides, cheap price always wins over quality...

But steveinbsas, congrats in purchasing a brand new TV, perhaps when that TV no longer serves you then you might splash for a Sony!

The Korean-Japanese pissing contests make Argentina and Chile seem like loving brothers.

I'd put Smart TV's along side 3d TV's in things not really worth getting. a small HDMI Dongle like the amazon fire tv, chromecast or one of the 1000's of android sticks can do what a smart tv does easily enough.

Yeah, we thought Japan paid for occuping Korea for centuries at the 1965 recompensation ceremony and the head honchos of the two contries shook hands, but now they want more!

Wants to keeping mooching for eternity...Now and again the Presidenta of Korea shouting pay for the WW II comfort
womens service..We apologised again and again from PM to next PM but the hussling never ends!
