Another PSA when it comes to purse snatching

The whole area around La Imprenta and the El Solar mall has become very dangerous.

My daughter's bag was stolen from a sidewalk cafe, with her standing not 50 cms. from her seat. A friend's car was sitting in her car at a red light, purse on the passenger seat, when two thugs armed with chains tried to smash the window. Luckily, the light changed before they could break it. This happened at three in the afternoon in Gorostiaga and LM Campos.

The safest place to carry a purse is on the flor, behind the driver's legs and flat against the seat. Out of sight and out of reach.

I saw two incidents on Sante Fe (around Montevideo) last week. A motochorro tried to smash a car's passenger window while it was stopped in traffic. He was using his fist and couldn't break the window. Motochorro fail. The other was on foot, he grabbed a guy's bag and started running. The victim shouted out and a couple of guys caught the thief and started beating him up. It was cool. They eventually pinned him down. The whole time, everyone was shouting out for the police. After about 5 mins this policeman appeared across the other side of Santa Fe, slowly making his way across the street, waiting for the traffic to pass. He was in no hurry whatsoever, and meanwhile two or three civilians are doing his job by holding on to the thief. Shockingly useless.
