The railways are notoriously corrupt. There is no accountability. No standards. Subsidies just disappear. I wonder where. The people who run the countrty don't ride the trains. What do they care?

I'm sorry but a lot of people living in this country NEED the subsidies otherwise they could not afford their basic needs. I don't know what you do for a living but if you ask anyone making less than 4000 pesos a month you can be assured they don't think of it as taking advantage and there are a lot of people who make less than that

Totally agree, subsidies for those in need are a good thing. However, from my observations and reading, many of the big ticket subsidies for goods and services in the budget are misguided. For example, Aerolíneas Argentinas. Each passenger's ticket sold on flight to Miami costs the government $600.00 us dollars: subsidy. Seems to me the subsidy thing in Argentina is misguided and not serving the people that are in need. Think government subsidies could be better managed and priorities set. SOS, and the beat goes on. Baffles me how the Argentines tolerate some of these thing.

Yes totally true - I'm sure it has to do with who's reaping the benefits instead of the people who can't afford basic things to get by unfortunately.

One of the problems is trying to pay for a ticket.
Adri lost her Sube card which is tied to the DNI (never realised that) and now she has to denounce that loss in order to get a new one. The tramite involved is a real pain.
So I foolishly asked her why she can't just get a new one and forget the old one. She can't until the tramite is completed. Loco!
So she goes to catch a train at La Lucila and there's nowhere to buy a ticket, machines broken, no ticket office.
Arriving at Retiro, all the turnstiles are broken and the few ticket collectors around are filing their nails or drinking mate.
As El Queso said, hardly anyone buys a ticket, either because they know they can get away with it or because the appalling service doesn't deserve it, in their opinion.

They would have been much better served getting freight railway up and running again subsidising routes until companies know they can trust the lines. This would also have the added benefit of making Moyano and his crooks a lot weaker.

As I said many times here, corruption in this country is cultural, it is from the verdulero to the bussinessman, it is Cristina but also Macri and Carrio, it is everywhere.

Carrio has never been accepted by the political establishment here, she's always been the rejected 'ugly duckling' & the reason is cause she's the ONLY public figure who has NEVER been corrupt. The opposite, she's almost been jailed more than once by the mafia peronista for being such a pain in their butt$, over the years she NEVER ceased her investigations into their evil criminal dealings.

So 'ineffectual' may not be the correct terminology to apply here...maybe it's better to say that she has always stayed true to her cause inspite of the insurmountable & overwhelming odds. Not exactly a negative personal quality, she deserves a gold medal for just being able to stay alive wouldn't you agree?

The Korrupt Peronists are cooking up this story that the train driver , while bleeding & injured & while being threatened by a vicious mob of angry train commuters, found a screw driver & had the time to disassemble the hard disk from it's secure enclosure in the middle of a train wreck.

How convenient for the KK Government mafia that they should find the hard disk inside his backpack in the hospital....So according to them we have to believe that the K investigators took the hard drive back to the their INDEC lab & recovered VIDEO.... if we're going to start talking conspiracies, with 4x major railway accidents in two years & the elections roaring on their way here for the 27th the Kirchner government & it's sympathizers are very nervous to say the least. You'd have to be totally NAIVE & gullible to believe anything other than a well planned & executed independent investigation. Certainly not anything like the 2 hour EXPRESS investigation results from the Kristina Korrupto mob.
