Argentina 2013 Economy

And Argentines just eat that Freudian and Neo-Marxist crap up wholesale. The whole country is wacko in so many ways.

I LOVE these economic discussions. Thanks to you all for posting your thoughts. I'm afraid they are not nearly as interesting as some of my discussions with Argentines though. Here is an example. I have a friend here who is a retired lawyer. She considers herself middle class, though with rising costs she is struggling on retirement. She has worked in government and tells me how completely corrupt it is.

Lately she has been attending some meetings/classes/whatever about how capitalism is causing all the world problems. Capitalism has to go!!!i

First off, she is confused about the definition of capitalism. If I see a need, and I invest my money in a business and run that business in the hope of a profit, I am a capitalist. However, if I am part of a large corporation and I maneuver my way into government position to control people and government, then we have fascism, i.e., government by corporations. The difference seems to slip the knowledge of most people.

But she now thinks all capitalism should be done away. What is the solution? Government should run everything. Where is the logical thinking?. Government here is completely corrupt in her thinking, but government should own and control everything and take care of everybody.

Another discussion with my spanish teacher--also degreed--about socialism in Argentina. She finally saw that no way could Argentina collect enough taxes to pay for all the stuff they offer in order to buy people's votes, and so they inflate, every so often when it just can't continue any longer, they devalue, people lose half of everything they saved and THEN the tax is paid, but they dont understand it is the hidden "inflation tax." They think it is just that the economy went awry with no idea why. The teacher finally got it. Was it an "Aha" moment for her that would change her approach to things? No, she was visibly upset. She said, "But it shouldn't BE that way, we should not have to think about economics, we should be able to give ourselves to CULTURE, to the arts, to opera, to education. We should not have to think about ecoomics!"

Go figure!

I do know Argentines who are more savvy though. Sadly they plan to leave the country if the current administration isn't removed in the next election. They are the kind of people we NEED in Argentina, in my opinion.

The economy in 2013 will do just FINE. Huge crop, Brazil reactivation and elections year (that means a lot of pesos for public spending) Will make the economy grow. FACT

It is funny to read and hear people saying that a crisis will come. I have been hearing that since 2004, next year.. next year.. and the economy will not stop growing.

20% controled inflation is a walk in the park for us Argentines. Anyone around in the begining of the 80's, late 80's, begining of the 90's will know what I'm talking about.

It has been 10 years since the last crisis and nothing happened...

Saludos.

You do know its around 30% now?
I don't think you can predict these things for certain. All you can say is 30% inflation is dangerous.
Perhaps the economy will bump along the bottom for a year or two or perhaps a devaluation will cause hyper inflation. who knows.

Things aren't fine but we aren't going to have a crisis in the next month.

I dont know why this thread is in Newcomer's Forum

Seems to me to be all the boring old same old same old .. "Oh why can't they be sensible .... and be just like us?"

There should be another place for this. Preferably with padding and soft music

Has anyone read this? Seems to be something of a classic - i'll have a gander
