Argentine wifes inches from getting the boot

It's becoming more and more clear that this virus - while deadly - has infected far more people than generally known.

Between March 22 and April 4, 2020, all pregnant women at two NYC hospitals were tested. 13.7% were positive and, of these, 87.9% were asymptomatic.

Think about the giant number of people who must have had the virus for almost 14% of women to test positive for the active - not antibodies - virus during a given two week period.

Great twitter exchanges: The actual study: https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMc2009316

This would be good news assuming that infection leads to immunity. Or possibly that 13.7% of people in hospitals contract it while outside its less.

Isn't the most likely explanation that the virus has been circulating in NYC hospitals since January, and the women picked it up during a routine visit to the hospital itself? I don't see how this relates to virus circulation in the general population, this is about as biased a sample group as you can pick.

Ah, I see, thanks for correcting. You should click on the link, review the study methodology, outline your criticisms, and submit them to the New England Journal of Medicine so that they can retract the article.

I did read the study, it draws no conclusions about infection rate in the general population. That was your contribution. Anyone spending significant time in NYC hospitals in the past month is likely to have been exposed to a very high viral load.

Anecdotally, I asked a nurse friend working in the New Haven hospital system whether he has seen many covid19 patients - he said well yeah, they're all covid19 patients. If they weren't before they came in they are after coming here.

Check the many MD and PhD linked conversations in that twitter thread.

Remember too that I'm especially interested in the massive level of underreporting because I myself had the virus, as did a large number of my work colleagues but, for all of us, there was a total of 1 positive test and a lot of asymptomatic to slightly symptomatic carriers.

I also happen to be have a statistical background from undergrad and MA level way back before I became an attorney, so that in addition to my anecdotal experience, I'm just fairly skeptical of the data that overall, when we're running - at least here in California and American - such an absurdly low testing/tracking regime. How can you model that with so few data points?

At this point, testing is basically telling you only about how many people were hospitalized, in most of the US.

Finally, your argument that pregnant women - when they appear for a visit and are nasally swabbed - can come in at 14% positive is just a joke. Think about it. First of all, look up the hospitals and methodologies, then also consider the bayesian considerations of what percentage of exposure you'd posit, in alternate. WHICH IS SOMETHING THEY'D HAVE TO RUN AND HAVE PEER REVIEWED BEFORE THE NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL WOULD PUBLISH . . .

I can understand the curiosity. I am as well. But the most important thing is that these two people resolve their conflict and REMAIN A FAMILY.

I am rooting for togetherness and love.

One way or another, I think that this relationship could benefit from some professional help in the way of counseling. It's not a bad thing to participate in, it's a good thing. Relationships take effort and work ... constant maintenance ... ALWAY DATE YOUR WIFE if you are a man. ALWAYS pay attention to your husband if you are a woman. Work from both sides!!!

Put another way - I WANT a HAPPY ENDING for these two people.

International relationships are hard enough with respect to the geography and cultural differences. Mixing in all the CV19 fear is a killer.

I urge you both to not give up on each other. Love and togetherness is the better path.

She is taking on the typical head in the sand position. I have done everything to protect and keep things locked down here. We are friends with a block away neighbor who has a teenager who is still just living like nothing is going on, friends in and out etc and I know in that house they are zero defensive measures. The family is well known here lots of local friends people in and out all the time as well. For me it is a high risk environment and I have even tried to explain things to them. Typical no pasa nada response, I hope they are right. These are good friends always wonderful people but at this time just not a place to hang out.

Yesterday wife says, I am going for a walk and I asked are going to see your friend. No she says no, as she knows I wont go in their house and have asked her not do so at this time. While she is out for her supposed walk. I finished disinfecting some things and then went to take the trash from the day to dumpster. Just so happens our friends son is taking the trash out as well at the same time. He informs me my wife in the house with his mother having a tea. I try to call the friend as my wife left her cell here no answer and they know they are busted I am sure. Her friend knows I do not want her in the house as well. I suppose they think it is like some sneaky girls things and that paranoid crazy gringo is just over reacting to all this.

To think all I have to done and the measures taken could be so easily taken down with a touch of deceptive carelessness. Blew me away and wow was I hot I mean just off the charts frustrated. Thinking here I done have so much work and put so much effort into securing us and the house and everything only to be under minded by my partner.

Spent the morning on AIRBNB looking for a place to put her for several months. Lots of places near by and very affordable given the the current situation. That might be the best temporary solution. Yet even that would require the use resources that might be needed before all this is over. But then again what use would resources be if the it got me due to careless and clueless relationships.

Hard decisions to made this day for sure.

I say send her ass packing! If she doesn't think she will get sick that's all her. Be safe my man!
