Aussie Tourist Shot Dead In Mendoza By Motochorro

I planned to visit mendoza. this has put me off.
but.
I have been around and I know that to change plans or waste opportunity is to let "them" win. And I could not allow for that to happen.
instead I will leave valuables with a trusted person in BA and come back here for my flight.

I just hope people who read this will think similarly.

there is a very fine line between caution and (UNINTENTIONAL) scare mongering.

I don't see the point of posting these awful stories here. Unless it's of special relevance or meant to warn us about a new M.O. or something, it's just morbid. I'm happier not knowing about these stories. There's nothing we can do either way.
You are sooooooo delicate. Motochorros deserve vigilante justice. Case closed.

But the powers that be are totally against gun ownership in Mendoza. How can this be? They are the national spearhead of gun disarment

Oops, forgot criminals do not give a flying F about laws! How uncivil of them.
My mistake.

If they don't have a gun you can bet they have a knife. A knife is a useful tool of the trade when cutting the strap of a shoulder bag that the victim is clinging to....and can cut more than just the strap.

Guns are far more lethal, though - you have a much better chance of evading or surviving a knife attack. This is one reason why the "guns don't kill people, people kill people" argument is so ludicrous.

Well at least they won't be able to outlaw tall trees and short ropes

A nice counterpoint to the tale that started this thread: https://twitter.com/silvioboc/status/460948227701735424

You can run from somebody with a knife. That won't help against a gun.
In close quarters from point blank to 7 yards, you don't stand a chance either way if you try to run, unless you can grow wings really really quick ;)
