Countdown To Default!

Singer is a nice & generous guy according to you. I rather think that many Congolese kids (no matter how much their government may be) died because of his actions (just an example).

Easy to give 1 million here and there when you rob billions from poor countries, taxpayers, etc.

At first I found you annoying, now I think you're insignificant, which is worst.

Could quote more posts but I don't really give a damn
'Not evil' is not the same as 'nice & generous'.

The Giving Pledge is not about a million or five - you pledge to donate at least half your entire fortune.

"Giving Pledge
Singer also signed The Giving Pledge, a commitment by wealthy individuals and families to donate more than half of their wealth to address society's "most difficult moral and economic challenges." In his commitment letter, he stated, "The Giving Pledge uniquely combines the direct provision of resources with the power of an idea - the idea that fostering discussions about the purpose of philanthropy may improve our philosophies of giving and lead to better results for those in need." Singer concluded in this letter that he is "happy and grateful to sign up for such a worthy endeavor."[sup][28]"[/sup]

But according to frenchie wikipedia is "vulture fund" propaganda.

Thank you for quoting yourself doing propaganda.

There is no debate about Singer is a vulture.

But this is off topic.

One can argue that Argentina has a moral obligation to pay it's debts. One can argue that it is a legal issue to be decided by the courts. However, in my view the real moral issue is allowing people to go after distressed assets to try to make a profit. This is the worst form of Capitalism.

Consider a young mother who gets into financial problems, working two jobs trying to feed her kids and pay for health insurance, and then gets sick and needs medical help. She recovers, negotiates with her creditors for a solution and has been paying off according to the agreement. Then, a debt collection agency comes knocking and says, "We don't really care about your agreement with the other creditors. We will take you to court and get a judgement that you pay 100% of your medical bills." If she is forced to pay those bills that will bankrupt her and put the welfare of her kids in jeopardy. How is that an equitable solution?

Super rich people do charitable stuff for PR and to assuage that tiny part of their conscience that keeps telling them that they are a cnut.

A lot of those super rich that make a big deal of things like the giving pledge are in fact simply setting up foundations and such that carry on their propaganda. The real good in this world seems to come from those that don't make much noise about it.

Acording to Bajo-2 wikipedia is "vulture fund" propaganda.

Don Alberto, if you have enough money, you can pay a company to develope a wiki about you for self propaganda.

Wikiexperts is one of those companies.

I m sorry if you felt bad when i asked you if you were paid for doing propaganda. I had 2 options, to assert that you are an idiot uninformed or that you are a smart and well paid clerk of one of those companies that provide propaganda services on line.

However, now i have my doubts.

What I am tired to say, and that's the reason I don't talk politics anymore (to your relief), is that contractual obligations are the moral and practical foundations of civilised interaction.
Human beings, as organised in tribes, have been acting charitably to their own group and with much hostility to every other group for the last few millennia. Finally after centuries of struggling with the concept of mutual benefit we have come up with a way of dealing with each other through trade instead of war.
Unless a global tribe is proposed (much like Kant's perpetual peace or the intentions of the United Nations), then there is no excuse for the continuing weakening of the validity of contracts, otherwise known as Capitalism.
And it is thanks to Capitalism that that poor mother of two can work two jobs in the first place and maybe get medical care that otherwise, in a world ruled by force instead of trade, would simply not exist.

Actually, the foundation of contractual obligations is an enforceable legal code, not a moral one.

a legal code needs to have some sort of moral foundation. In the case of Common Law, the Magna Carta comes to mind, and later the Declaration Rights of 1689.
