Deadly Swine Flu paralyses Mexico City

1st victim in US is Mexican baby, crossed border while sick

"sick mexican baby dies shortly after crossing border" doesn't make such a good headline though.

Still, at least swine flu knocked dengue off the front pages. Presumably that pandemic is on hold while we fret over something affecting other countries.

Hey there, I have been concerned about the 'Flu - what I have been told.

My source, a virologist states that,

'We measure and track 'flu annually south to north, respectively Southern winter to Northern winter (peak flu) in Europe, and measure recorded cases across the world as the weather changes Autumn to Winter in Europe and our predictions are very accurate, even accounting for travel over the last 20 years. The cases then increase steadily in Europe to March and decline quickly from April into spring when the flu all but disappears.

However, this flu is a virulent mutate, unknown before, but expected, hence the media circus and panic. The media, guess work, seems demonstrates its capacity to overcome healthy hosts, not science, he also points out that poor people living with their livestock in villas, with poor diet, insanitary conditions, etc, do not represent our home populations.

He believes that this flu does not just attack healthy adults, as represented by the press. This segment of the population is just the biggest cluster at the moment. The reason is not susceptibility based on age, as also claimed in the press, in his opinion, this is a common sense matter caused by the 18 to 40s commuting and socialising more around a communicable virus outbreak and without more data the alarm is overkill.

However, the fact that the virus does infect 'healthy people' and leads to systemic sickness and sometimes death is a major concern. But who knows how healthy they were? Especially, when people are recovering quite well in the modern world.

Also, be sure that this virus does not just float around, it is only found in respiratory secretions as far as he knows and the reason it is attacking what seems to be a healthy population is just because they are front line, maybe stressed by what’s happening in the world, he would be very surprised if that did not change rapidly, as it has in the past when those infected start to infect their wider families, young and old. Look at history and the pandemics - interesting periods of war and economic disaster - life is too damn stressful, that is what this tells me.

If the virus arrives in Buenos Aires:

Prevention is better than cure!

Wear a mask, avoid those who are sick, stay away from large groups of people and avoid the public transport systems, hospital, cinema, theater, and doctors surgeries, etc, etc, if you can.

A sniffle or a cold or cough is not the flu, however, rapid onset, hours rather than days, flu is like being struck down by lightening, of fever should concern you and is good reason to take or seek out Tamiflu (tablet) or Relenza (inhaler most effective when used correctly). However, using these drugs as a
prophylaxis, a a very bad idea, it might render the few drugs available to treat this problem useless.

Very good article:

I asked at several large pharmacies yesterday and was informed that even the generic versions of these drugs are not available in BA. Does anyone have information to the contrary?

Have them sent dhl. I would not be surprised, i am not sure that they have passed the patent and generics are available???? Not kept pace with pharma manufacture

People asked the moderator about my background. Now I am retired, work part time in property, http://www.bastay.com & http:///www.buenosairesstay.com are some of my retirement projects, but I ran healthcare, informed policy as apart of the Healthcare reforms in the UK, and security businesses, lots of care deleivered in custodial settings, courts, immigration, etc. I am not an expert, I merely asked an old prof mate from our old lab, Professional Pathology Services, that was based in Harley Street, London, to advise me.

My husband and I arrive in BA Saturday from the US. Are there screenings at EZE airport for travelers entering?

Thanks.

I don't think so...unless they have recently installed scanners for body temperature.

Just don't cough, sneeze, or sniffle.
