Now that I have my DNI, I'm thinking about getting a drivers license here (I have a Florida license and an international license).
I'd like to take a driving class in order to learn all the local rules and get some on the road practice but my spanish isn't strong enough and there dont seem to be any english classes.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

In Olivos, I just handed over my UK license and got an Arg one straight away. No questions asked.
That was 2008, so don't know if things have changed.

Wow, really? At least in Ciudad de Buenos Aires, things are different. In order for me to exchange my Spanish driver's license, I need to get a certificate from the traffic authority in Spain confirming that my license is authentic.

Getting a license in Prov. BS. AS. is easier than getting one in Capital Federal. I did the same in 2010. If you live in Ciudad Buenos Aires you must get the license there.

According to recent posts on the subject, anyone living in CF will have to take the written and driving test. I remember one post stating that if you have a valid foreign license you do not have to present a certificate from a driving school.

Nativexpat's post about have to get a foreign license certified is the first I've heard of that requirement. My US license was rejected in 2010 in BA because the renewal sticker on the back (received by mail) did not have the signature of the Secretary of State.

To jeff1234: If you send me an email address in a PM I can send you a sample written test with the answers highlighted as well as an English translation of it that I made.

I would start driving on weekends or during the summer with my foreign driver's license. That's how I did it. I still cannot get on Panamericana without taking the wrong exit and twice I ended up in Tecnopolis trying to go from Dot to Palermo...

It is posted in the Gobierno de la Ciudad site. I guess they must have encountered too many fake licenses?

I confess that I drove with just my UK license for about three years beforehand and when I was stopped I was simply advised to get a local one with very little drama.

You'll need to take the driver's class and test in Spanish. The problem with having a DNI and a foreign license is that the auto insurance company will most likely refuse to cover you without a local license.

I renewed my bike insurance recently with a different insurer and they never asked about my licence.

A few years ago it was suggested to me to go to an Automobile Club that provides instruction, preparing you for the test and taking you to the testing facility. I have been to the testing location with my wife and would have been completely lost if it had not been for her. I am sorry that I do not remember the name of the club that offers this service but I am sure that someone else on this forum can provide you with that information.
