Expat cleaning person?

I don't believe that's what people are paying. There was a thread on this only a couple of months ago and people were paying from 15 to 20....she left at the time of that thread, if wages have gone up a lot since then, fair enough.

I work for a rental agency and we pay our cleaning ladies 25 pesos an hour. That is the going rate if you want reliable, trustworthy service. We prefer not to rotate our cleaning staff so that is why we give 25. 20 is generally acceptable. Anything less than that is not good. Of course wages have gone up within a few months.....so have prices.....this is Argentina. A year ago I think 15 might have been acceptable but prices have changed considerably in just a year's time.

You're in Argentina and you ask that question ? Go look at the inflation thread. Just think that these people actually have to live on what you pay them. Like I said, just some food for thought not trying to judge or " encararte ".

Well I never suggest a wage, I always ask the person what they charge, as you will see if you read my opening post. That way everyone is happy. As I said, I haven't had a cleaner for awhile...but anyway, I'm look for an expat.

the going rate is 25 these days. the bare minimum if you dont want to be considered a " rata " is 20. How do you expect someone to live on 17 pesos an hour ?

I pay my maid 25 pesos. If you'd pay the same, i'm sure you'll find a good reliable honest worker that doesnt feel like shes getting exploited. Just some food for thought.

I don't know anyone paying 25 an hour to their cleaning woman.

Carverfan - I can PM you my cleaning woman's number if you like. She's great, very reliable, isn't an expat though and doesn't speak any english. She's cleaned for me for 2 years or so and I have nothing but good things to say about her. I believe she is charging 20 pesos an hour to new clients plus viatico.

I do, as do most of the people I know. As does the guy who just posted above me. So now you know at least a couple.

20 pesos is the minimum unless you are a " rata ".

Gee BlackHand, you should work for Moyano. (Maybe you do?) I'm sure he would give you job.

It may vary depending on your barrio. I'm in San Cristobal and I don't believe the rate here is what is being cited. That sounds like a Palermo/Belgrano special...

I pay mine 15 pesos/hour and she's awesome. An older woman, works very hard, and has been with me for a long time. I put her in blanco, too. I've been out of the expat circles for all these years and know mostly Argies, and found mine through an Argie connection. Based on my experience, 25 pesos/hour is the rate they charge foreigners while 15 pesos/hour is the rate they charge Argies.
