We recently had our church wedding in Argentina (the civil we did before moving here.) We made gift registry lists in a few places including Falabella. Today when we went to start collecting the things we want we realized most of the things on our list from just a month or so ago are no longer in stock and they are not sure if they will be coming back or not. Here a lot of places keep an account open and you can go and collect things after the wedding or, if you change your mind you can use the money for something else. They don´t reserve the items for you.

They told us that Falabella alone currently has several hundred shipping containers in the port right now that the government is not letting into the country and that a lot of other stores are also trying to get their shipping containers in.

So what kinds of things are they currently out of with no idea if they will return.....
electrolux washing machines (We went to three Falabella locations and they are out!) They told us we should opt for a Candy which we´ve been told are pieces of crap.
imported furniture (we wanted a specific T.V. stand that they no longer have because it was imported little did we know)
home theater systems
random house electronics that are imported from specific blender models to the better food processors
cooking and baking dishes etc, etc

One of the poor salesmen there told us they were suffering a lot because some of them earn commission and right now they only have mostly Argentine brands to sell.

Ahhhhhh the 3rd world!

Let's take this to it's logical conclusion.

Stop importing people (especially from the United States).

Just to clarify here... Although I may be imported, my husband is Argentine. Despite growing up in this system, he finds things like this just as annoying as I do. I don´t think this type of frustration is really felt differently from one culture to another.

But hey, at least they still have LED T.V.s. I guess they are making them in Tierra Del Fuego. Go industria Argentina!

If it's true, the scary part of this is that it took a while to be implemented. (There were threads about it about a year ago).

Let's hope the same thing doesn't apply to enforcing last year's decreto regarding tourist visas.

Who knows??? Maybe in a few weeks, they´ll get the containers. Maybe not. Maybe imports will continue as they are, maybe not. For sure though if this stuff comes in the prices will rise. Sucks for us if we want to try to wait it out.

We have a Candy washer/dryer combo unit and have been pretty happy with it (1 year old).

I second that.......we also have a CANDY washer/dryer combo unit for 2 years and it works great! CANDY is actually one of the better brands here for laundry machines.

The two have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Ahhhhhh the 3rd world!

Good for stopping those Chilean foreign companies importing goods into this country in detriment of the national industry and the exodus of foreign exchange in imports.

'Candy which we´ve been told are pieces of crap'..these brands may be a piece of crap, sure, but at least is our crap.

Ahhhhhh the 3rd world!....indeed
