Getting My Papers Ready For Permanent Residency - A Recap

Don't let your precaria expire. You need to go back to the migraciones office and extend the precaria before it expires if you have not received your DNI, yet. From what I understand they just give you the new precaria with another 90 days.

There is also a new link on the migraciones website (or at least I had not noticed it before) for those who went to the main office for their residency application: http://www.migracion...orm_inicial.php I am not in Buenos Aires, though and get a "Este servicio se encuentra disponible únicamente para trámites iniciados en la Sede Central de esta DNM". Here I need to go to the local office without turno.

Everybody, immigration is at least 90 days behind! I just renewed my precaria as it will expire when I'm out of the country. I applied for permanent residency at the end of September AND THEY STILL HAVENT EVEN LOOKED AT MY FILE! That is how far behind they are. So don't think anything if you see nothing on your file. It probably means they haven't gotten to it yet. I think it's gonna be a long wait for all of us.
And yes, with the precaria (which needs to be accompanied with your expired DNI in order to be considered legit ) theoretically you have all the rights of a permanent resident.

Hi sevi, that link is just to check your application status. From what we read on the forum, it never gets actualized... it keeps showing "application under supervision" since the day you apply. It looks like I will have to waste spend another day at DNM. Should I book an appointment, as well? Last time it took one month to get an appointment, so I'd better hurry.

The point is that this is my first application and I have no previous DNI. On the various website they ask for the DNI number, and I can't yet type a thing. I can't even get a supermarket fidelity card with just my passport!

It is is a different link:

Renovacion: http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/renovacion_precaria/form_inicial.php
vs.
Status (consulta tramite): http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/consulta_tramite/form_inicial.php

Jeez, you are right.
I clicked on the link, inserted my details and now got this:

Muchas gracias,

Dirección Nacional de Migraciones

Quick update regarding the status on the website not showing anything under "Estado:". I went to migraciones to check why the field was empty and it turned out the residency application was ready but not yet signed by their head honcho. They got it signed and then printed out a document stating my permanent residency (as of today). The status on the website is now saying "Su tramité fue resuelto ...". The DNI will arrive by mail.

I went to migrations a couple of weeks ago because my first precaria was about to expire and I hadn't received my DNI in the mail. I showed up at around 11 AM without an appointment. I think it was building C which is the one with the door open. They told me to go to window 1 or 2. Then I was told to come back the next day at 7:30 AM. There was a long line at the door, but I told them that I had been there the day before and was sent in. Windows 1 and 2 weren't open yet, but did open at 8 AM. There were only about 10 people in line at that time. Apparently they thought I was missing some paperwork and I was sent across the field to another building where they determined that my paperwork was in order and was sent back to see Dario (the guy at window 2) and he gave me a new precaria good for another three months. I was there for a couple of hours. I guess I'll receive my DNI in the mail, but if I don't I'll go back down there before this precaria expires. Every one that I dealt with was very polite.

There is another useful website to check the status of your new DNI. So once your residency application was approved and you get the "Su tramité fue resuelto ..." message on the migraciones website then you can go to the following link to see if your DNI is ready:

http://www.mininteri...tramite-dni.php

Click on the "Consulta por Boleta Prenumerada" tab and enter the 26 digit number from page you paid the $40 pesos for your DNI with (the number is in the upper left corner right under under the barcode). The initial status seems to be: "EL DNI SE ENCUENTRA EN PROCESO DE EMISIÓN". But eventually you will get the message that it was mailed: "EL DNI FUE EMITIDO Y ENTREGADO A LA EMPRESA DE CORREO ... CON FECHA ...".

Sevi, thank you so much for your info and links! I was able to see that my DNI process was completed 12/16 and that "EL DNI SE ENCUENTRA EN PROCESO DE EMISIÓN."

Serafina, I think your appointment was a couple days after mine. I think both our status changed this past week or so. Maybe you are right behind me on your card being issued and mailed!
