Getting My Papers Ready For Permanent Residency - A Recap

Everybody, immigration is at least 90 days behind! I just renewed my precaria as it will expire when I'm out of the country. I applied for permanent residency at the end of September AND THEY STILL HAVENT EVEN LOOKED AT MY FILE! That is how far behind they are. So don't think anything if you see nothing on your file. It probably means they haven't gotten to it yet. I think it's gonna be a long wait for all of us.
And yes, with the precaria (which needs to be accompanied with your expired DNI in order to be considered legit ) theoretically you have all the rights of a permanent resident.

I had the cell number for the guy who helped me at immigration and called him. He said that for the most part applications for permanent residency get grouped into categories - family, pensioner, etc. He said that generally if all docs are in order, the family (blood relative or married to Argentine or permanent resident) application gets processed and issued more quickly than others that they take more time in reviewing before approving. So, how much time the process takes could depend on what group an application falls into.

Serafina, I think your appointment was a couple days after mine. I think both our status changed this past week or so. Maybe you are right behind me on your card being issued and mailed!

You were interviewed on Nov. 26th, I went on Nov. 31st - I have been checking my status but it is still under supervision. I don't think anything will change until late January, at this point.
My (online) request for an extension has not produced any change on my status, though.

After wasting 2 hours at Migraciones, it turned out that the extension of my precaria can be issued only after my current precaria has expired.

Migraciones' website simply say to wait for up to 72 hours for your extended precaria, they just forgot to say "after your old one has already expired". Duh!

Finally, everywhere there were signs says that the extension of the precaria can be done exclusively online at http://www.migracion...orm_inicial.php (the link Sevi posted).

Thanks for the information and for sacrificing your time. It seems that every current DNI process is running past the 90 days.

Do please let us know how the online extension of your precaria goes.

I will report about it. The lady at Migraciones said I just needed to print the page that will be shown on Migraciones' website without needing to go back to their offices.
My 90th day is in ten days, so let's be patient!

Ok, I tried the link and got this:
"Este servicio se encuentra disponible únicamente para trámites iniciados en la Sede Central de esta DNM"(This service is available only to proceedings initiated at the Headquarters of the DNM)
I submitted my application at Av. Alvarez Jonte Nº 4346 so I wonder if that's why I have to go in person? I called the cell number of the guy who attended me in October and he said I have to go to Retiro BEFORE it expires to get a renewal. I guess I will go and probably waste 2 hours because I am now confused as to what the procedure is and don't want it to expire and have an issue.

Formerly he said to return to the Jonte office, but now said Retiro. Any suggestions as to which location to go to from anyone?

For what it's worth, today I went to immigration at Retiro and here is what happened. Although I have my letter of Disposicion dated Dec 16, 2014 granting me permanent residency, I was concerned that I needed an extension on my Precaria as it expires next week and I have not received my DNI.
1. A guy at the door told me I had to apply for the extension online. I told him I had tried but that I got a message saying I couldn't use the online method because my application was not filed at Retiro, but at Alvarez Jonte. He said I could wait in line for a couple of hours but they would tell me the same thing.
2. I approached another guy at the door and told him the same thing and then showed him the response at the website on my phone. He gave me a number and sent me in - ahead of a line of about 50 other people.
3. I went to the info desk and after looking up my record, they said I did not need a Precaria anymore as I had a letter of Disposicion. Further, they said my DNI had been created and gave me an address on Hipolito Yrigollen to go and pick it up.
4. I went to that address and waited an hour to be told that they could see my record in the system but that my DNI had not been printed as they were missing my picture and finger prints. I was given another number and told to wait in another area to talk to someone.
5. After another hour I was told by another person that since my pic and prints were not part of my computer file they would take them right then and issue and mail my DNI within 30-40 days. She also said that I did not need the Precaria, only the letter of Disposicion and my passport before my DNI arrived. She added that in any case, this was not the address to pick up a DNI. Pick up is at Jujuy. They took my prints and pic and I walked out.

All I can say is I guess I am glad I went in as I would have been waiting forever for that DNI as they had lost my info and didn't feel the need to notify me.

I went to check on my residencia and got this message: "Su trámite se encuentra con faltante de documentación. Por favor preséntese en la sede donde inició el mismo para mayor informacion."

When I got the precaria in December, I was told to come back with the translation of the passport as well as the alta temprana. (Technically, the only faltante was the translation; the alta temprana is only given after one has obtained a CUIL, so it is normal to have to go back with that.) I got those both in before the deadline and got a piece of paper saying it was all OK. (The precaria I already had, with no note saying it wasn't complete or anything.)

Could this just be a backlog in updating information? I handed the missing documentation around December 23.

It could be a backlogged message, but do you want to take that chance? I only found out that they misplaced part of my (computer) file (I'd like to know how that happened) when I went in for something else.

Update on my case:

Oct. 31st 2014: I filed for permanent residency through marriage, got a precaria valid for 90 days on the spot
Dec 15th 2014: I applied for an extension of my precaria, since my application status was unchanged and the holidays approaching
Jan 19th 2015: I went to Migraciones to inquire about my case, since no extension was given, nor any status update was found. I was told the extension can be given only after my current precaria expire so I had to wait.
Jan 29th 2015: my precaria has expired, my application is still in the same state it has been ever since I applied (etapa de supervision)
Jan 30th 2015: I tried to renew my precaria but the link says I already submit a request on Dec 15th.

So here I am with an expired precaria, no extension and a trip approaching. I cannot but utter nasty thing against Argentinian's bureaucracy. Kind of makes me miss USCIS.
