Hate North Americans?

Oh orwellian, let me guess... you must also believe that the US is going to at some point invade Argentina to steal the water here?

Right?

I know you guys don't read much about history, that isn't your own. But since you are here, try picking up a book on the many military coups the CIA have carried out on this continent.
To answer your question: No, I don't think they will ever invade Argentina.

While we are talking generalizations here...

The current generation is a mixed bag and I think you will find a range of those who love the U.S. and think everything there is better and wonderful to those who feel U.S. media have dominated the Argentine landscape and have resentment for it.

Certainly the generation of the 60s and 70s has a lot of people who have a very strong prejudice against the U.S. based government actions. You have to consider that the U.S. government supported a lot of dictatorships all over Latin America with the excuse of stopping communism, though it often was very beneficial to certain U.S. industries and businesses. Without going into great detail, consider that under Nixon, the CIA supported the dictatoships in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Bolivia by setting up an illegal network called Operation Condor.

This network helped these dictatorship murder and disappear greater numbers of those who opposed them, and the U.S. was directly responsible.

I am not justifying the attitudes of individuals here, but just trying to give a sense of some of the history that may have formed attitudes.

Orwellian, you wanted to talk about history?

What about starting a thread about "Hate Europeans?" so that our US american friends can have their moment of glory without needing to throw tomatoes on Argentines...

After all, we are the ones who exported our misery, values, arrogance to the American continent, structuring a vast unknown area living out of picking and hunting into countries, nations, artificial identities based on education rather than ethnicity. We exported our concept of private property that applies to sedentary overpopulated areas where resources are rare to underpopulated areas where resources were plentyfull. We exported our beliefs, philosophy, converted local population by force, "civilizating" the salvage. We exported our viruses, decimated, enslaved in the name of a loving God. We forced them to speak our languages.

We have had more than 2000 years of history of warfare that reached its climax with our implosion ititiating two global wars. US americans just relayed our historical trend and values but in a milder economic war version, since they avoided the development of regional conflicts into a WW3. Remember that atomic bombs were european inventions.

We can t blame them for their global police role as long as we are not willing to increase our own defense budgets and create a european army, not based on national identities and interests, but at the service of international institutions. For this we would have to accept to increase our military budgets and pay the price of more casualties. Only then could US americans accept to be more cooperative, somewhat abandoning their sacrosanct self serving sovereignty, since we will have proven our will to share the burden of this "sacred mission" of defending and extending western barbarian pornographic values.

We are all Argentines, since we all inherited from Italian (roman) military, judicial and scientific organisations. Our differences are marginal compared to the Grand Orient, demographic centerweight of our species.

Cmon, amies, shoot, we are the real baddies, you guys are just our degenerate heirs :p It s not that easy to build yourself an identity when your name, language, values come from another continent, to find coherence in that diversity. After all, the answer might be patriotism.

I usually don't get involved in these "political" discussions, generally because they go nowhere, solve nothing, and promote ill will.

I am however getting a little weary of silly useless condemnations of people and policies, without providing a coherent alternative!
It s VERY easy to criticize, for example, Obama, but I yet to hear on plausible plan that could realistically be implemented.
It is also very easy to criticize the United States, but I feel the need to point out the the very reason you can do that publicly is a gift from the US!

One would do well to reflect where the world would be without the direction, both social, political, technical, and economic that the US has offered, given, and, yes, occasionally forced on the rest of the world!
My contention is that it would NOT be a better place!

The European community has for centuries been a bickering, quibbling group of countries that historically have been much more willing to fight each other then compromise. It is really only in the last 50 or 60 years that any semblance of unity or organization has existed.

You and several million other mid-eastern, asian and south american countries!

How did you do that?

I think this silly statement is the equivalent of Al Gore claiming to have invented the internet

Europe may or may not have "invented" the atomic bomb, but they damn sure invented degeneracy!

You aren't baddies - baddies are people who use some gods name as an excuse to butcher civilians, force illiteracy and repression on whole societies, and then demand the world accept them as civilized equals.
What you are is a silly, spoiled, whiny group who expect other people to solve your problems, and then complain about how they are doing it without offering a single practical, lucid alternative!

My 2 cents!

I have already stated that they should hate us as well. But the reason they harbor less hatred toward us is because we haven't directly been involved in bloody military coups here. On the contrary, my country has granted asylum for thousands of Argentines that fled the dictatorship.
Although I do agree we also have blood on our hands and we have done a lot of bad things, but inventing the a-bomb was not one of them.

From my experience, Argentines do not hate Americans, and they don't feel inferior, in fact I bet they feel superior because of the typical argentine cockyness...I think they just don't like them as much as they maybe like other nationalities because of the common belief that a lot of americans are ignorants and that they defend war policies blindly without knowing the root of the situation. Also Argentines think that is really sad and stupid how kids in the US die to join the military as if it was a big honor.
Im greek but I lived many years in Argentina so this is kinda an insider point of view, im sorry...

Ok, well then maybe there is hope for you after all.

One of the most ridiculous piece of crap conspiracy theories I have ever heard in my entire life. i.e. US was going to invade Argentina for the express purpose of taking the water here. When I heard this I could not stop laughing for an hour.

I told the people I heard this from that IF the US was going to invade Argentina I could definitely think of some better things to take. 2 of which would be the women and the beef! Although now that they have started grain feeding (vs grass) some of the beef here it might end up being the same as ours anyway. So ok... maybe just the women.

Ok, sorry I digress, now back to the "I hate the US" channel

Enjoy!

Being from the eeuu I don't think I've ever really felt like I was being hated and managed to make a lot of great friends that I talk to on msn when I'm here in the states. In any area where you have a population you are going to have people that simply like to hate, dwell... the misery loves company type. On the other hand you're going to have decent people and while there are cultural differences btw Argentines and North Americans you're going to find what you seek.

All I can say is that when I'm in Argentina I feel pretty comfortable and the thought of being on the receiving end of any hate never really entered the picture. Be decent and you'll hit it off with decent people then you'll be fine.

Yeah Argentines hate the US because they love Iraqis

Here's one thing I've heard from two different Argies at least...something like "in the US kids leave home at 16 (??), there's no bond with the parents, it's a nation with no sense of family or friendship, this is why you invade Iraq and oppress others..." I'm not joking. This is one of the bright ideas about the US in circulation around here.

Here is a bright idea for you, being US American, Zulu, Eskimo or Javanese :

- Stop thinking that people that don t know you have sentiments for you. They couldnt care less where you are from, but they will care how you behave if you meet them, which leads to the second point

- Stop comparing your home and here. For wathever reason you left your birth nest, don t watch back and try to fly like any other birdy around, coz the only thing you ll get doing this is homesickness. Which leads to the third point.

- Try to think positive, and you ll find out the people you cross will start to watch you with a smile...because smiling will come naturally, is a free gift, and doesnt make you look more stupid. Which leads to the 4th point :

FELIZ NAVIDAD! :)
