How much is the cost of living in Buenos Aires in June 2023 in US$?

The first time I came here I rented a room in an Argentinean woman's apartment. She turned out to be unhinged, everyday she had some creative new expense she wanted money for on top of the agreed rent. At the same time she seemed to live in terror I was going to steal from her, or more likely, bring a new friend back to the apartment who would. I left after 2 weeks even though I paid for a month
I'm glad you shared this.

In my pervious post I almost wrote that "Any Argentine who would be willing to rent a room in their house to a foreigner would have to be crazy."

PS: I am guessing that this was the first (and most likely the only) time that this woman ever rented a room to a foreigner (if not anyone),

In Buenos Aires, Argentina’s cosmopolitan capital, a world-class culinary scene is flourishing. That would not necessarily be news if it were not for the fact that Argentina is in the middle of an extraordinary financial crisis.

Not sure how close to downtown you want to be, but here's studios in Recoleta: https://www.zonaprop.com.ar/departamentos-alquiler-recoleta-hasta-1-ambiente.html

Or if you want furnished temporary rentals: https://www.zonaprop.com.ar/departamentos-alquiler-temporal-recoleta-hasta-1-ambiente.html

Can a person rent one of those long term apartments on a 3 month tourist visa? And would they be able to get the electricity and internet etc connected

There's some on that page even if you paid for 12 months then were only in the country for like 6 it would be a better deal than airbnb

Highly unikely without a garantia which (if my information is correct) requires two sources of income (one from a local with a DNI?)

Highly unlikely without a DNI of your own.

Do you think it would be a "beter deal" after you bought all of the furniture, a TV as well as kitchen appliances (including a frdge) and (quite, if not most often) things like llight fixtures and window coverigs, as well as heating and a/c units that are not usually included in the long term apartment rentals...

...and what woud you do with them at the end of the six months?

Sell them at a huge loss on Mercado Libre (which you cannot use with a tourist visa), or just walk away...like you can from two (back to back) three month rental agreements, having only paid the rent for the six months, never having wasted any time buying all that stuff or regretting the time and money you will have wasted when you try to sell it before you leave....

...and/or end up selling it all to a "weekend garage sale specialist" for a staggering low price?

Steve makes some valid points, no doubt, and his end conclusion is one I agree with.

However, that being said, selling things here on BAExpats seems to be an option which has met with much success in most instances, provided the asking prices were reasonable. I have bought a mixer and a drill and various other things from folks here that were leaving the country.

Airbnb has a section for room rental . select in the filter section where says
"Room in APT" or something similar , not "Whole Apat".

I got so lucky in that regard. The first time I came to CABA in 2009 I rented an apt from someone I chatted with online. He had 2 apt units in the same building but the other one that he wanted to rent out to me was still under renovation so he told me to stay in his unit because he would only be in CABA during weekends (weekdays he worked in Rosario so when he came back on the weekend I just slept on the sofa bed in the living room). It took about a month-ish to finish the renovation and then I moved to the other unit. I didn't have to pay for anything extra like deposit etc etc and he only charged me $150/month. I cooked and clumsy me ended up breaking a couple of his plates. I found out they were antique plates and felt so bad about it. I offered to pay for it but he said it was OK. We have remained friends till this day :)
